Edward Frederick Decker, Jr., 66, 1802 Vine St., Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in the Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Edward Frederick Decker and Susan Forbes Decker. He was retired from the U. S. Marine Corp.
Surviving, includes two cousins, Hildamary Scott of Moyock, NC and Patricia Baldt of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Arthur Edward Decker.
The body has been cremated and no memorial service is scheduled at this time.

Nerene M. Eves
Nerene Markham Eves, 85, of 1625 Salem Church Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Pasquotank County to the late Joseph C. and Katie Cartwright Markham and was the widow of the late Willie J. Eves. She was a member of the Weeksville Lions Club Auxiliary, Marcia Albertson Community Club and the Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Carolyn Miller, Virginia Beach, VA, a brother, Eugene Markham of Elizabeth City, and a granddaughter, Carole B. Williams of Lake Gaston, VA. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Martin and Hilda Fitchett.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 2:00pm in the New Hollywood Cemetery by Rev. Bill Otis. Randy Lee Garrett, 46 of 379 Old Swamp Road, South Mills, NC died at his residence. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Fred and Queenie Cahoon Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a heavy equipment mechanic, a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, and an avid musician. He loved his family dearly.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Marlene Biggs Garrett of South Mills, NC, a daughter, Crystal Garrett of Newport News, VA.; three sisters, Joyce Olah of Chesapeake, VA, Marie Baker of Florida, and Norma Barnett of Norfolk, VA.; two brothers, Charles Garrett and Jerry Garrett both of Moyock, NC and a half brother Ken Garrett. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Garrett, Jr. and Marvin Garrett and two half brothers Doug and Donald Garrett.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC, Tuesday, April 1, 2003, from 6:00 until 8:00pm. Ida Etheridge Tatum, age 73, 891 Body Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC, daughter of the late Christopher and Lizzie Hopkins Etheridge, and was the widow of Clarence Elwood Tatum. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Mrs. Tatum is survived by a daughter, Jo Tatum Meads and husband Walter Ray of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Brownie Tatum and wife Jenny and Chubby Tatum and wife Imogene both of Elizabeth City, NC; seven grandchildren, Jason and Lisa Meads, Brandon, Summer, and Wesley Tatum, Kelli Robeson, and Heather Hammack; three great grandchildren; and a very special friend, Louise Raper.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 2:00 pm in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Roy Head officiating. Mary Bogue Perry, 90, formerly of Third Street, Elizabeth City and presently a resident of Greenville, NC, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in the Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC to the late John P. Bogue Sr. and Narcissus Smith Bogue and was the widow of the late Curtis Edward Perry. Mrs. Perry was a member of the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris P. Cox of Greenville, NC, Joyce P. Herring of Houston, TX., and Mary Ann P. Wussow of Kingwood, TX; two sons, Curtis Perry, Jr. of Carrolton, TX. and James R. Perry of Watauga, TX; one sister, Affie Spivey of Belvidere, NC; one brother, Oscar H. Bogue of Roanoke Rapids, NC; 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

Elva Cahoon Cartwright, age 90 of 1303 Preyer St., Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, March 24, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Hyde Co., NC; daughter of the late Carroll and Armeta Jarvis Cahoon and was the widow of Elwyn Cartwright. She was a retired auditor for Sears, Roebuck, and Company, a member of the Englehard Disciple of Christ Church, a lifetime member of O.E.S, Hyde County Chapter # 213, and the Marcie Albertson Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Cartwright is survived a daughter, Cecilia C. ‘Ceci’ Austin of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Mary C. Kelly of San Diego, CA and Lois C. Midgett of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Carroll Ephron Cahoon, Crawford L. Cahoon, and James Lawson Cahoon.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 2:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Roland William Donath

Roland William Donath, age 83, of 143 Lazy West Lane, Hertford, NC, died at his residence on Saturday, March 22, 2003. He was a native of Bronx, New York, son of the late William Donath and Elizabeth Becker Donath, and husband of Elsie Engber Donath of the residence. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, and retired from Grumman Aircraft where he was a tool and dye maker. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force during WWII.
Besides his wife, Mr. Donath is survived by: one daughter, Carol Dillon of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, Robert Donath of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Eleanor Holochuck of Flushing, NY, and Gertrude Aguirre of Holly Hills, FL; six grandsons; and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at 2:00pm in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with military honors. SARA WRIGHT SAWYER, 68 of 593 Old US 17 South Elizabeth City NC died Saturday March 22 in Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville NC. She was a native of Camden County NC daughter of the late Haywood P. and Mrs. Pearl Riggs Sawyer and the wife of Walter Sawyer of the home. Mrs.. Sawyer was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.
Besides her husband she is survived by two sons Johnny Sawyer and his wife Rhonda, Terry Sawyer and his wife Pam all of Elizabeth City NC five sisters Mary Dean and Florine Needham both of Shiloh NC Marvelane Gregory of Chesapeake Va. Hazel Gregory of Camden NC Linda Chappell of Elizabeth City NC two grandchildren Krystal and Wesley Sawyer. She was predeceased by a sister Jessie Mae Riggs.

Milford Ray ‘Mickey’ Twine, 79, of 710 Briarwood Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was born in Perquimans County, NC to the late Oscar Keaton and Della Stallings Twine and was the husband of Llewellyn ‘Sis’ Sawyer Twine of the home. He was a heavy equipment operator for Stevenson Sand Company.
Mr. Twine is survived by three sons, Milford ‘Buddy’ Twine, Jr. and family of Woodville, Steve Twine and family of Elizabeth City, and David Twine and family of Rhode Island; six daughters, Brenda Sawyer and family of Hertford, Patsy Brickhouse and family of South Mills, Judy Humphries and family of Powells Point, Sandra Gainey and family of Winterville, Linda Gregory and family of Shawboro, and Lisa Bullock and family of Bear Grass; eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
