ROY HOWARD GOOD, 66, of Buxton, NC died Friday, August 29, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Good was born in Frisco, NC and was a Heavy Equipment Operator and Truck Driver for Crump Construction Company. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the U. S. Army and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was the son of the late Sherman and Nina Fulcher Good.

Mr. Good is survived by his wife, Brenda Quidley Good of the residence; a sister, Susie Good of Chicago, IL; three brothers, George Good of Elizabeth City, NC, Tommy Good and Gerald Good, both of Frisco, NC.

Funeral services will be held at the residence at 48077 Buxton Back Road on Monday, September 1, 2003 at 11:00 am with Rev. Roger Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Quidley Family Cemetery. The body will be placed in the home on Saturday afternoon to lie in state until Monday.

VIRGINIA BEACH – PH1 David M. Tapper, 32, died August 20, 2003 while
serving his country. Mr. Tapper was born in Camden, NJ to Kenneth and Judith
Tapper. Mr. Tapper was a Navy Seal.
He left behind his parents, his loving wife, Tracy; two daughters, Vanessa
and Talia; two sons, Raimen and Jared; four sisters, Judi, Ruth, Brenda and
Diana and a host of other family members and friends.

Walter B. Gregory

CHESAPEAKE – WALTER BURNS GREGORY, 75, died August 26, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Gregory was born in Little Rock, AR to the late, Robert B. and Maye
Middendorf Gregory. He was a veteran, having served in the US Navy for over 30
years and had attained the rank of Master Chief. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by
his daughter, Maye Ann Gregory.

Survivors include his wife, Marge Duviou Gregory of Chesapeake; one son, Gene
H. Gregory and his wife Faye of Windsor; four grandchildren Joy Mills and her
husband Keith of Chesapeake, Gene Gregory Jr. and his wife Lynn of
Smithfield, Everett Brown and his wife Michelle of Smithfield, and Cindy Dixion and her
husband Eric of Magnolia, NC; three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Garrett and
Jacob.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6., at 11:00 am at
Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake with Rev. Johnny McDonald officiating. Burial
will follow with full military honors at Moyock Cemetery, Moyock, NC. with Rev.
Doyle Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made

Arnette Brite Owens, age 77 of 200 Riverview Ave., Camden, NC died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Pasquotank Co, NC; daughter of the late Rufus and Laeura Harris Brite and was the wife of Floid Edward Owens of the residence. She was a dedicated member of Corinth Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a former bookkeeper for Belks and former co-owner/operator of the Causeway Marina.

Mrs. Owens is survived by four daughters, Kitty Games of Camden, NC, Janet Cartwright of Saluda, VA, Floyd Dean Dail of Camden, NC and Linda Lowry of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, David Owens of Camden, NC; three sisters, Nannie Mae Hall of Chesapeake, VA, and Louise Jackson and Dot Scott, both of Elizabeth City, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 3:00 PM in Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Roy Head officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and at other times at the residence. Brooks Stetson

BROOKS DANIELS STETSON, 82, of Wanchese, NC died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Stetson was born in Wanchese and was an Ordained Minister with the Assemblies of God. She was a ‘Highway and Hedges’ minister and was a supply pastor for many churches in the area including Manteo, Poplar Branch, Englehard, Colington, Columbia and Manns Harbor, etc. She was a former Women’s Ministries leader at Wanchese Assembly and a former Sunday School teacher. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Dola Tillett Daniels and the widow of the late L. W. Stetson, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Carey Worth Stetson, and two sisters, Wanda Daniels and Bertie Daniels.

Mrs. Stetson is survived by a daughter, Paulette S. Nall and husband, Harold of Gibsonville, NC; a son, Charles Wesley Stetson and wife, Kim of Wanchese, NC; a sister, Wanda Daniels Cox and husband, Bill of Manteo, NC; a brother, Timer Daniels and wife, Mickey of Wanchese, NC; five grandchildren, Ruth Jane Stetson, Stephen Samuel Stetson, Cass Nall, Ladd Nall and wife, Beth and Danae Nall; two great-grandchildren, Erin Dickerson and Kylie Nall.

A Celebration of Sister Brookie’s life will be held at Wanchese Assembly of God on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 3:00 pm with Rev. David Dalton, Rev. James Kelly, Rev. Charles Cookman and Rev. David Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Cudworth Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. Aldean Beasley Beacham, 82 died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Beacham was born in Colington, NC and a former resident of Virginia Beach, VA for over 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Virginia Beach Assembly of God. She was the daughter of the late Ray McClease Beasley and the late Henrietta Gaimel Beasley and was married to John LeLand Beacham, Jr. of the home for 63 years.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Beacham is survived by one daughter; Debra B. Snyder of Virginia Beach; three sons; Duane Beacham and John L. Beacham, III of Virginia Beach, VA and Don Beacham of Indiana, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Royce Beacham officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. Romans Eglitis, 77, died at his residence on Monday, August 25, 2003. Mr. Eglitis was born in Skriveri, Latvija and was a retired Mechanical Engineer. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late Janis and Marta Swanson Eglitis.

Mr. Eglitis is survived by his wife, Nina Rozenieks Eglitis of the home, one daughter, Inga Francis, Esquire and her husband Richard Francis, Esquire of Boykins, VA, one son, Dr. Martins Eglitis and wife, Dr. Beth Eglitis of Indianapolis, Indiana; one God-son, Andris Paza, two grandchildren, Kersti Anna Francis and Aleksandris Konstantinis Eglitis.

Mary Sophia Bowden Darnell, age 100 of Enid, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at her daughter’s residence. She was born in Hillsborough, TX; daughter of the late Isaac Hillingsworth and Maudie Beatrice Johnson Bowden and was the widow of Mark Lively Darnell. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Enid.

Mrs. Darnell is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ferrell of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, Eugene Bowden Darnell of Enid, OK; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by two sons, Jack Hollingsworth Darnell and Lawrence Melvin Darnell.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at 2:00 PM in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK.

Jack Wallace Best, Age 79, of 538 Meadstown Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Dothan, AL, son of the late William Wallace and Clara Knight Best, and was the husband of Myrtle Meads Best of the residence. He was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy in Germany and Africa during WWII.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Curtis of Sea Grove, NC; one son, Jake A. Best of Cedar Rapids, IA; one brother, Hopson Best, of Pensacola, FL; seven grandchildren.

Sadie Blankenship Seymour, age 80, formerly of Barco, NC died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Matewan, WV and was the daughter of the late Penny and Bertha Justice Blankenship and the widow of Marvin Seymour.
