Michel Shane Scarborough, 36, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Scarborough was born in Elizabeth City, NC and was a commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Cape Hatteras United Methodist Church and a graduate of Hatteras High School. He was the son of Robert Edward ‘Bobby’ Scarborough and the late Amanda Austin Scarborough.
He is survived by one son, Tanner Scarborough of Buxton; two sisters, Wendy Allen and Sara Slater, both of Frisco; two brothers, Robbie Scarborough of Frisco and Marvin Scarborough of Wilmington.
A memorial service will be held at the Hatteras United Methodist Church on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Charles Moseley officiating.

Earl Steger

Earl Linwood Steger, 78, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. Mr. Steger was born in Norfolk, VA and was a Captain on several charter boats. He was a member of the Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, He was a Past Master in the Cape Hatteras Masonic Lodge, he was also a member of the York Rites and the Scottish Rites and was a Shriner. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy for 31 years as a Warrant Officer during WWII, Korean, War and Vietnam War. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Victory Medal with Accommodation Ribbons, the American Area Campaign Medal during WWII and the Navy Occupational Medal. He was the son of the late James E. Steger and the late Ethel Gregory Steger and the husband of Zola Jenkins Steger of the home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Patricia and her husband Joseph Grumm of Hampstead, NC; three sons, Gary and his wife Dhanyo Bowers of Buxton, Don and his wife Anne of Frisco and Andy and his wife Stephanie Bowers of Avon; two brothers, Robert and his wife Gwen Steger of Swansboro, NC and John and his wife Beverly Steger of Prattville, AL; four grandchildren, Patricia and her husband Steve Smith, Canaan and his wife Jonda Merillat, Cain and Corbin Bowers; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Cailin and Shelby.
A celebration of life will be held at Little Grove United Methodist Church on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Charles Moseley officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Norfolk on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 3:00 PM with full military honors. A Visitation will be held at the Little Grove United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 1, 2004 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Michael Paulsen

Mr. Michael ‘Mike’ Francis Paulsen, age 57, of 106 Gardenia Drive, Powells Point, NC, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Paulsen was born in Essex County, NJ, the son of the late George Henry Paulsen and Dorthea Marie ‘Dorothy’ Riker Paulsen of Powells Point, NC and was the husband of Elizabeth Marie ‘Betsey’ Boegershausen Paulsen. He was the owner and operator of The Music Store in Kitty Hawk, NC, for 18 years. He currently operated the Music Store in Harbinger, NC; a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Traffic Control; attended Montclair State College; and was a member of the Grandy Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Besides his mother and wife, Mr. Paulsen is survived by one daughter, Rebakah Marie Paulsen of the home; two sons, Michael Prior of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Jonathan George Paulsen of Kitty Hawk, NC; one sister, Pam M. Stafford of Middletown, NJ; two brothers, Glenn Andrew Paulsen of Montclair, NJ and Christopher Paulsen of Tinton Falls, NJ; and three grandchildren, Elias Willoughby; Logan Michael Prior; and Alex Scott Prior.
A funeral service will be Friday, July 2, 2004, at 2:00 PM in the Grandy Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses with James Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colony Chapel in Manteo, NC, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. At other times the family will be at the residence, 106 Gardenia Drive, Powell’s Point, NC. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Gardens Cemetery. MARY G. POORMAN, 94, of Kill Devil Hills, NC and formerly of Cameron, WV, died June 30, 2004 at Outer Banks Hospital, Nags Head, NC. Mrs. Poorman had been residing in Kill Devil Hills with her niece, Judith Ann Harris Norberg and her husband, Ronald Norberg, Sr.. Mrs. Poorman retired as Bank President, after serving almost 60 years with both, First National Bank of Cameron, WV and Valley One Bank. She served as secretary of Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #9 of Cameron, for 26 years and was also a Past Matron. She was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Edith Poorman and the widow of the late Ray Harris, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Opal Harris.
Mrs. Poorman is survived by niece, Judith Ann Harris Norberg and husband, Ron; grand-nephews, Ronald ‘Chip’ Norberg, Jr. of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Ray Erik Norberg of Cameron, WV; and great-nieces, Noelle and Caitlyn Norberg of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Brittany Norberg of Renova, PA.
Funeral services and visitation with Eastern Star Rites will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, Cameron, WV, followed by interment at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV.

Charles Robert Snyder, 62, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at a Nags Head medical facility. Mr. Snyder was born in Shamokin, PA, was a sub-contractor for floor covering and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran having served in Germany with the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Margaret Lipsett Snyder and Charles M. Snyder of Paxinos, PA and was the husband of Connie Susanne Couch Snyder of the home.
Besides his father and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Christine (Chris) Stametz and husband, David, of Coal Township, Michelle Noble of Annapolis, MD; one son, Mark Snyder of Elysburg, PA; two step-children, Wendy Erdly of Forest Hill, NY and Carl Erdly and his wife, Catherine of Quincy, MA; three sisters, Pat Flore and husband, Ken, Darlene Horne and husband Roger, Peggy Yarger and husband Robert, all of Paxinos; two brothers, Ken Snyder and wife, Betty of Paxinos and Robert Snyder of Elysburg; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Shamokin, PA on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Nelson R. Alleman officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Peters Blue Church Cemetery in Paxinos. The family will receive friends at Lucas Funeral Home on Thursday, July 1st from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday, July 2nd from 1:00 Pm to 2:00 PM. Jane Twiford

Jane White Twiford, 53, died Monday, June 28th at Chesapeake Hospital. Born in Edenton, she lived in Manteo for over 30 years. Jane will be remembered for her joyful and persistent spirit even in the most difficult of times. She loved her work as a magistrate for Betty Mann as well as her work and customers at Star Value and Dune’s Restaurant. Jane loved her church family and Petey the chirpy gray cockatiel that was her constant companion.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Meekins; her father Sid White, Sr. of Edenton; brothers, Sid White, Jr and his wife Norma of Edenton and Jerry White and his wife Freda of Chesterfield, VA; a sister Judy Hollowell of Hertford.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, July 2nd at 11 AM at Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church, Hwy 64@ Harriot. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM at the Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Jane’s memory to Roanoke Island Presbyterian church, P.O. box 1465, Manteo, NC 27954.

Archie Mac Donald

Native of Northfield, MN
Archie E. Mac Donald, age 65, of Powells Point, NC passed from this earthly life Monday afternoon to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born March 3, 1939 to Ruthella (Brown) and Donald Mac Donald. He was preceded in death by his parents. He grew up in Brattleboro, VT and Northfield, MN before becoming involved in the hardwood lumber business. Archie later spent many years in the La Crosse, WI area, most notably as owner of Mac Donald & Owen Lumber Company, before retiring to North Carolina. He was a veteran of the US Army.
One of Archie’s greatest loves was sharing the Word of God, and he found ample opportunity to teach and minister in a variety of settings. He served as Chairman of the Church at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in La Crosse, WI, as Chairman of the Deacon Body at Poplar Branch Baptist Church, as teacher in seminars and Bible studies, and was a licensed minister in the Baptist Church.
Archie is survived by his loving wife Zandra, and their children Heather (Mac Donald) & Gregory Blomberg of La Crosse, WI, Jeremy Casey, and Heather Casey of Atlanta, GA; grandson Jack Blomberg; and sister Mary Mac Donald of Prospect Heights, IL.
Friends are invited to participate in a celebration of Archie’s life which will be officiated by his longtime friend, Pastor Joe Bubar, and by Pastor Bill Thorn at Poplar Branch Baptist Church in Poplar Branch, NC at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, with viewing from 1:00- 2:00 p.m. at the church. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall following the service. The family will receive friends at the home, 217 Riverlane Road, Powells Point, NC. CALVIN GENE O’NEAL, SR, 54, of Kinston, died, Monday, June 28, 2004, in Kinston. Mr. O’Neal was born in Manteo, N.C. and was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. O’Neal was a wonderful husband who was always there for his family and will be truly missed by those he left behind.
He was the son of Nettie Rogers O’Neal of Nags Head, N.C. and the late Albert O’Neal and the husband of Biggie O’Neal of the home.
Besides his wife surviving are one son; Calvin Gene O’Neal, Jr and one sister Gloria Flowers both of Manteo, one brother; Willie O’Neal of Virginia and two grandchildren; Lindsey Leigh O’Neal and Cyle Gene O’Neal.

Elizabeth Hoffman Shaver, 87, died on Friday, June 25, 2004 at a Nags Head nursing facility. Mrs. Shaver was born in Newport News, VA and was a housewife. She was the widow of Paul F.M. Shaver, Jr.
Her survivors include one daughter, Sally Cudworth and husband Carl of Maryland; three sons, Jack Shaver and wife, Mary Lou of Newport News, Paul F.M. Shaver, III and wife Sarah K. of Nags Head and Bill Shaver and wife Cheryl of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Rose Bud Thomas of Newport News; one brother, Felix Hoffman of Georgia; five grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan and Ethan Cudworth, Kimberly Harrah and Leonard Bennett and two great-grandchildren, Sidney Smith and Kendall Carrithers.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport News on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 7:30 PM with MSGR Mike McCarron officiating and a reception following. The family will receive friends right before the funeral mass from 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM. A prayer service at the church on Thursday, July 1st at 9:30 AM and a Christian burial will follow at 10:00 AM in Peninsula Memorial Park.

He was the son of William Daniels of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Mary Scarborough Paige and was the husband of Bettie Brown Scarborough of the home.
Besides his wife and father, he is survived by three daughters, Glenda ‘Gigi’ Umozurike of Moyock, Djuana ‘Muffin’ Powers of Virginia Beach and Velissa ‘Lisa’ Britton of Fayetteville; five sons, Roy D. Scarborough of Fayetteville, William E. ‘Tyke’ Scarborough of Raleigh, Andra Gibbs of Belhaven, Johnathan Scarborough of Kill Devil Hills and Ika Gibbs of Fayetteville; two sisters, Erma Gore of Manteo and Ellen Johnson of Durham; one brother, Leon Daniels of Manteo; two step-mothers, Willa Daniels of Virginia Beach, Clarice Paige of Durham and sixteen grandchildren.
