Gloria Barnes Steeley, 62, of 2480 Peartree Road, Elizabeth, NC, died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC.

Mrs. Steeley was born December 23, 1941, in Plymouth, NC, and was the daughter of the late Dennis Durham Barnes and Alva Edna Respass Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband William Luther Steeley on December 3, 1998.

Mrs. Steeley, was the exceptional children’s secretary for Elizabeth City and Pasquotank County Schools.

Surviving are two daughters: Joanne S. Sanders, and her husband David of Hertford, NC, and Jennifer S. Peoples and her husband Tim of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister Carol B. Stubbs and her husband Gerald of Plymouth, NC, and six grandchildren; Brandon Scott, Troy Sanders, Mason Sanders, David Parker, Katie Parker and Adam Peoples.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday November 2, 2004, at 3:30 P. M. at the Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with Rev. Roland Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the funeral home lobby, and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law; Jennifer and Tim Peoples 103 Bradley Drive, Peartree Place Elizabeth City, NC.

Robert Benton Cason

Knotts Island ‘ Robert B. Cason, 73, died Saturday, October 30, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Cason was born in VA Beach, to the late Wilbur W. and Aleen Grimstead Cason. Mr. Cason retired from the VA Beach City Garage, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Cason and two sisters, Elmyra O’Neal and Joyce Daughtry.
Mr. Cason is survived by two brothers, Edward ‘Swamp’ Cason of Knotts Island and Wilbur ‘Bug’ Walter Cason Jr. and wife, Jeanette of Knotts Island; nine nieces and six nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Knotts Island Community Cemetery with Rev. Bill Thorn officiating. Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.

OLLIE Baughm STYRON MUTRO, 83, of Ocracoke, died, Thursday, October 28, 2004, in Elizabeth City. Mrs. Mutro was born in Ocracoke and was a homemaker and member of the Ocracoke Assembly of God.

She was the daughter of the late Elijah and Estelle O’Neal Styron and the wife of Theodore Mutro of the home.

Besides her husband, surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Williams of Virginia Beach, Va; Mable Gaskins and Evlena Mutro both of Ocracoke; Suzanne Durivage of Pennsylvania; three sons, Anthony Mutro and Dale Mutro both of Ocracoke, Sammy Lewis of California; one sister, Etta Spencer of Ocracoke; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held in Ocracoke Assembly of God, Monday, November 1, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. John White, Ann Mann and Joyce Reynolds. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery. Twiford’s Island Chapel Hatteras is assisting the Mutro family.

Vera Harris

Vera Lamb Harris, 84, Tanglewood Dr., Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004, in the Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC to the late Clyde H. and Minnie Combs Lamb. Mrs. Harris was a devoted wife, mother and a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She was a Baptist and a former member of the Elizabeth City Rebekah Lodge #62 and the Forest Park Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harry Everette Harris of Elizabeth City, NC, a daughter, Barbara H. Gorrell and husband, Pete, of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, Hillie E. Harris and Ethel of Yorktown, VA and Randy C. Harris and wife, Deborah, of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Hilda Sawyer and Betty Ann Thompson both of Elizabeth City; one brother, Lester Lamb of Elizabeth City; four grandsons, Philip Todd Harris, Matt Chandler Harris, Eric Christopher Harris and Mark Adam Harris and two great grandsons, Philip Todd Harris II and Jeremy Michael Harris. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by three brothers, James Lamb, Bobby Lamb, and Calvin Lamb, a nephew, Timothy Terry and a life-long friend, Elsie B. Shannon.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 30, 2004 at 11:00am in Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, by Rev. F. Joe Griffith. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. RUTH BERTRAM GOLDMAN, 80, of Buxton, NC, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 in a Nags Head nursing home. Mrs. Goldman, born in Waterloo, IL, was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of the Seas Catholic Church. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Elena Reitz Bertram and the widow of the late Noval Cedric Goldman.

Mrs. Goldman is survived by a daughter, Melissa Merrill of Buxton; a son, Terrall Goldman of Buxton; three grandchildren, Jackie Goldman of Buxton, Michelle King of Virginia Beach, and Shawn King of Buxton.

A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of the Seas Catholic Church, Buxton on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at 11:00 am with Father Andre Izac.

Jesse Russel ‘Pop’ Kissel, 79, of 106 Guinea Road, Moyock, NC, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Barco Sentara Nursing Center. He was born in Jersey Shore, PA, son of the late Jesse A. Kissel and Helen Kissel of Albany,NY, and was the husband of Gladys Amy Pulver Kissel of the residence. Mr. Kissel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII as a deep sea diver, a mechanist at Lyon Shipyard, where he was a member of the seafare union, also, Mr. Kissel loved to fish.

Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Kissel is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Fulton and husband William of Moyock, NC, and Deborah Hazard of Moyock, NC; two sons, Warren J. Kissel and wife Terry of Moyock, NC, and Rusty Kissel and wife Sunday of Kill Devil Hills, NC; fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Kissel, and a grandson, Warren J. Kissel, Jr., who is survived by his wife, Alana Kissel of New Jersey.

A funeral service will be held, Friday, October 29, 2004 at 11:00am in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Vic Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Moyock Cemetery. Steven Lee Bloodworth, 5, and Bobbi Jo Bloodworth, 7, of 628 Chapanoke Road, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, October 24, 2004 from injuries received from an autombile accident. Both were born in Elizabeth City, NC, and attended Perquimans Central Elementary School. Their mother, Lynnette Hickle Bloodworth, also died on October 24, 2004 as a result of the automobile accident.

Survivors include their father, Sean Ford Bloodworth of the residence; one brother, Aron Ford Bloodworth of Elizabeth City, NC; maternal grandparents, Lynn Edward Hickle, Sr. and Donna B. Hickle of Elizabeth City, NC; paternal grandfather, Amon Bloodworth of Easley, SC; paternal grandmother, Runell Nail Bloodworth of Baxley, GA; maternal great grandmother, Nora Rankin Brady of Waynesburg, PA; and paternal great grandmother, Lucille Radish Hughes of Baxley, GA.

Sidney T. Amandolia, Sr.

SIDNEY THOMAS AMANDOLIA, Sr., 83, formerly of Mebane, NC, passed away on October 23, 2004. A graduate of NC State University, he had a long management career in the furniture industry, and honorably served in the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater.

Sid joins his wife of 57 years, Margaret Bryan Amandolia, who departed this earth December 12, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Grant of Kill Devil Hills, and son, S. Thomas Amandolia, Jr. of Durham, his sisters, Dorothy Hoke, Mary Garmon and Bobbie Jo Rivers, brothers, Paul Amandolia and John Amandolia, four grandchildren, twenty-nine nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.

A memorial service will be held at Mebane United Methodist Church, Mebane, NC, on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mebane United Methodist Church, 200 S. Fourth St., Mebane, NC 27302.

Elmer Trent Berry

Elmer Trent Berry, 84, of 1231 Salem Church Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, October 24, 2004, in the Albemarle Hospital. He was born in the Weeksville section of Pasquotank County to the late Barney and Estelle Bateman Berry. Mr. Berry was a retired farmer, having been a partner in the Berry Brothers Farms and later a partner in E. T. Berry and Son Farms. He was a former employee for fifteen years of N. C. Employment Security Commission, secretary of the Berry Seeder Company, a member of the B.P.O.Elks Lodge #856, and Salem Baptist Church where he was a former choir member. Mr. Berry attended Weeksville High School and played on the varsity basketball team.

He is survived by his wife, Murle Chapman Berry of the home, a son, Steven Berry of Elizabeth City; a sister, Louise B. Owens of Norfolk, Va. and a brother, Arelion Berry of Elizabeth City. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman B. Berry and Maurice K. Berry.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at 2:00pm in the Twiford Memorial Chapel by Rev. Jeff Russell. Burial will be in the New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the chapel service and at other times at their residence, 1231 Salem Church Road, Elizabeth City.
