Mr. Maryland ‘Tinybud’ Moore, age 65, of the 1200 block of Crawford Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Moore, a native of Perquimans County, NC, was the son of the late James A. Moore and Isa Lane Moore. He was a retired self-employed logger.
Mr. Moore is survived by a sister, Lucy Brickhouse of Elizabeth City, NC; seven nieces; and three newphews.
A graveside service will be Monday, January 31, 2005 at 2:00 PM in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Greenway officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of the niece, Mr. & Mrs. Mike and Rose Byrum, 1084 Northside Road, Elizabeth City, NC, 27909. William Harrison
William C. Harrison
Chesapeake ‘ William Carroll Harrison, 84, died January 26, 2005. Mr. Harrison was born in South Norfolk to the late Silas B. and Patti Sue Bobbitt Harrison. He had a strong faith and was very supportive of the First Church of the Nazarine where he was a life long member. Mr. Harrison retired from the Ford Motor Company after working for them for 30 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrie May Halstead Harrison; daughter, Barbara Hawley Ford and a host of brothers and sisters.
Survivors include, one daughter, Joy Harrison Christensen of Lolo, MT; one son, Bryan L. Hawley of Chesapeake; one sister, Virginia Doxey; seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 pm.

Anne Britts Tomlinson, 72, of 1113 West Williams Circle, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday at her home.
Mrs. Tomlinson was born in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Hannah Nyholm Britts. She was a dedicated servant of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a former employee of the East Carolina Bank in Engelhard, NC, and a former member of the Hyde County Rescue Squad.
Survivors include two daughters; Susan K. Tomlinson of Elizabeth City, NC and Denise T. Radford of Pahrump, Nevada, four sons, Maurice S. Tomlinson, II of Okeechobee, Florida, Glenn R. Tomlinson of Lumberton, NC, Jonathan C. Tomlinson of Aydlett, NC and Craig E. Tomlinson of Clayton, NC, and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Selby Tomlinson.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at 1:00 P. M. at the Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with Stewart Nixon officiating. The family will join friends following the memorial service in the funeral home lobby.

James Leonard

James Francis Leonard, 64, died Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head. Mr. Leonard was born in Philadelphia, PA and had been a resident of Kill Devil Hills for 5 years and a former Montgomery County resident in Gaithersburg, MD. He earned his B.A. Degree from the University of Maryland, worked with the C.I.A. from 1963 to 1973 and with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 1973 to 1987. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and was a member of the American Legion.
He was the son of the late James and Mary Leonard and the husband of 43 years to Gail Leonard of the home.
Survivors include six children, Jim Leonard and wife, Lesley, of Urbana, MD, Chris Leonard and wife, Dora, of Gaithersburg, MD, Laurie Leonard and husband, Marc, of Gaithersburg, MD, Mark Leonard and wife, Sarah, of Gaithersburg, MD, Kelly Knopf and husband, John, of Annapolis, MD, Kim Knopf and husband, Kenny of Kill Devil Hills, NC; ten grandchildren, Heather, Garrett, Joshua, Easton, Dylan, Tommy, Madison, Sean, Bradley and Jack; three sisters, Mary Leonard of Immaculata, PA, Pat Merk of Levittown, PA and Bernie Burns of Saranac Lake, NY.
A memorial service will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 16420 South Westland Drive, Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, February 4, 2005. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Interfaith Community Outreach, P.O. Box 838, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.

ESTELLE SCARBOROUGH GRAY, 74, of Avon, died, Sunday, January 30, 2005, in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Gray was born in Avon and was a homemaker and a member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Blucher and Beulah Gray Scarborough and the wife of Norman Gray of the home.
Besides her husband surviving are her daughter: Dawn Gray Wetzel and husband Bruce of Virginia Beach, Virginia, her son: Norman Gray, Jr of Avon, sister: Meleitta S. Austin of Portsmouth, Va and nephews Phillip and Donald Austin, Jr and niece Joni Tallman, brother: Blucher Scarborough of Virginia Beach, Virginia and wife Bertie and nephew and niece: B.R. Scarborough and Lana.
A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005, in Saint John’s United Methodist Church, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Susie Fitch-Slater. Burial will be in the Gray Family Cemetery in Buxton. Twiford’s Island Chapel Hatteras is assisting the family.

Buxton, NC’ Iris Barnett Anderson, 84, died January 27, 2005. Mrs. Anderson was born in Buxton, NC to the late Thomas and Martha Swain Barnett. She was a charter member of Cape Hatteras Baptist Church and the choir, Hatteras Island Kiwanas, Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter 157, Norfolk and the Moose Lodge 29, co-founder of Hatteras Island Adult Care and also on the board of directors. Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her husband, Tommy ‘Doc’ Anderson.
Survivors include three daughters, Martha Poythress and husband David of Kinston, NC, Opal Taylor and husband John of Plum Branch, SC, and Sherrill Weber and husband Steven of Chesapeake; two sisters, Georgia Gray of Buxton, NC and Grace McClean of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Chiswell Barnett of Gainsville, FL and David Barnett of Frisco, NC; eight grandchildren, David, Scott and Liz Poythress, Connie Roethlinger Sondra Hawkins, John Taylor, Jr. Lisa Callahan and Sara Brownlowe; eleven great grandchildren, Candice, Erik, David, Trey, Cynthia, CJ, Carey, Collin, Aliya, Eli and Kiernen.
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Allzwell Assisted Living and Lake Taylor Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake at 1 pm on Monday with the Rev. John Cullop and Rev. Bobbie Skeens officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. GWENDOLYN C. TETER, 89, of Manns Harbor, NC, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, January 27, 2005.
Mrs. Teter is survived by her husband of 64 years, Norman C. Teter; daughters Anne White and husband John of Manns Harbor, NC; Carol Dorbacopoulos of Los Angeles; Janice Curtiss and husband Jay of Cary, NC; a son, David Teter of Lincoln, NE; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Teter earned a B.S. in home economics from the University of Illinois, and a M.S. in nutrition from Iowa State. She taught chemistry at several Raleigh colleges during WW II, then was an exemplary homemaker for her family in many places around the world.

Chesapeake ‘ Steven Ray Atkinson, 42, passed away on January 26 at Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mr. Atkinson was born in Norfolk to Billy Ray and Rita Diane Atkinson.
Besides his parents, survivors include a sister, Lisa D. Richard of Va. Beach and a brother, William R. Atkinson of Chesapeake.

MARION SANDERS NIXON, 89 of Elizabeth City NC died Sunday December 19,2004 in the Albemarle Hospital. She was a native of Pasquotank County daughter of the late Richard Louis and Mrs. Lou Davis Sanders and the widow of Harold W. Nixon. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nixon is survived by one sister Chloe S. Rye of Elizabeth City NC. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

CADDIE URIAS GASKINS SHOEMAKER, 85, of Buxton, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. She was a wonderful woman who cherished and loved her family. Rossie worked in the Newport Theater as a young woman and also owned and operated the Old Virginia Ham Shop in Norfolk, VA for many years. She was loved by her family and community and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish her precious memory is her daughter, Deborah Etheridge of Buxton, NC; sister, Rebecca Burrus of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren, Sebring Rockefeller and wife, Rhonda Rockefeller of Virginia Beach, VA, Kristen Parrino and husband, Warren Parrino of Birmingham, AL; five great-grandchildren, Alexandria Rockefeller, John Rockefeller, Robert Rockefeller, Mitchell Parrino, and Carter Parrino. Rossie was preceded in death by her husband, Al Shoemaker.
Funeral services will be held at the Buxton United Methodist Church on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dwight Burrus and Rev. Charles Moseley officiating. Burial will take place in the Gaskins Family Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Kathleen Gaskins at 47516 Rocky Rollinson Road, Buxton.
