George (Bob) Endley

George (Bob) R. Endley, a four year resident of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and formerly a thirty year resident of Pasadena, MD died Saturday, April 30, 2005 following a three year battle with cancer. Born in Baltimore, MD on October 25, 1941, he was the son of Amanda Endley of Ocala, FL and the late Charles J. Endley. He had a great love of his children, home, and NASCAR racing and was a former self-employed HVAC technician.
Besides his mother, Mr. Endley is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia (Ginger) Endley of the home; a daughter, Robin G. Endley; a son, Joseph S. Endley; four grandchildren, Kasey, Kyle, Joshua, and Logan; a brother, Charles (Jack) Endley; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald L. Endley.
A memorial service will be held in Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 442, Hatteras, NC 27943. Twiford’s Island Chapel, Hatteras, NC is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES GILBERT SCHRAUDNER, 76, of Grandy, NC died Thursday, April 28, 2005 in a Barco, NC nursing home. Mr. Schraudner, born in Baltimore, MD, was a retired Inspector with Lever Brothers Company and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the son of the late Fredrick Gilbert and Anna Linhart Schraudner and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Elizabeth Schraudner.
Mr. Schraudner is survived by his wife, Mary Regina Walz Schraudner of the residence; a son, Glen Bruce Schraudner of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Lillian Callender of Baltimore, MD; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo on Saturday, April 30, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and on Sunday, May 1, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Mattie Kennedy Spruill, age 79, of 1705 Winlsow Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at her residence. She was a native of Washington, NC, daughter of the late Mack Kennedy and Renee White Kennedy, and was wife of the late Leonce Q. Spruill. She was retired from the Elizabeth City Cotton Mill.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy S. Sawyer and her husband Timmy; one son, Charles Spruill and his wife Mary; and one daughter in law, Linda Spruill all of Elizabeth City, NC; six grandchildren; great and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son Richard Spruill.

Joseph R. Pipkin, 79, of 207 Hastings Lane, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC, son of the late Ralph Vester and Annie Rogerson Pipkin. He was a retired roofer and served in the Merchant Marines.
Mr. Pipkin is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Joe Pipkin of Champlin, MN, and Jerry Joe Pipkin of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Margaret Sawyer of Camden, NC, Clarine Pastorius of Kissimmee, FL, and Lorene Walters of Elizabeth City, NC; three brothers, R. Kendrick Pipkin of Elizabeth City, NC, Henry C. Pipkin of Greenville, NC, and Nathan E. ‘Pete’ Pipkin of Greenville, NC; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Mr. Pipkin was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ann Harrell and a brother, David Pipkin.

Mrs. Adams was born on November 27, 1954, in Elizabeth City, NC and was a LPN with the Brian Center in Hertford, NC.

Shirley of Conway, AR., Peggy J. Harris of Deltona, FL., and Dorothy Faye J. Jeffcoat of Pelion, SC., five brothers William David Jernigan and Don Wayne Jernigan both of Elizabeth City, NC., William Roger ‘Billy’ Jernigan of Chesapeake, VA., Jim W. Jernigan of Laurel, DE., and John Thomas Jernigan of Millsboro, DE.

Eleanor Harloe Caldwell Lacy, 85, of 527 Muddy Creek Road, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Albemarle Hospital. She was native of Winchester, VA, and grew up in Southern Pines, NC, and formerly of Portsmouth, VA. She was the daughter of the late Morton Brock Harloe and Anna Sophie Simpkins. She was a nurse and was a graduate of Duke University, and a member of Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; Calvin Lacy, Jr., and three sons, Joel H. Caldwell of Richmond, VA, W. Steven Caldwell of Chaffe, MO, and James F. Caldwell of Knoxville, TN; several grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Richard H. Caldwell, and four sisters.

Jesse C. Groce, Jr. of Manteo, NC resident of Belhaven, NC died Tuesday, April 26th at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. A celebration of life will be conducted Saturday, April 30th at 2:00 PM in Twiford’s Chapels in Manteo, NC with the Rev. Stafford Berry presiding.
J.C. was born July 11, 1931 in Hiltonia, GA, the son of the late Rev. Jesse Groce and Alberta Groce. He was a 26 ‘ year USCG retiree MCPO / E9, Navy League National Munro Award nominee, and member of the North End Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Rosalie Creef Groce; three children, Karen G. Dudenhefer, Jay Cee Groce and Douglas C. Groce; two grandchildren Cheryl M. Krey and Edward L. Mann Jr.; three great-grandchildren Mason, Quentin and Ellie Krey; and one sister, Margaret G. Mahler.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Tiffany A. Mann and three brothers Omar Groce, Waverly Groce, James Groce and sister Katie G. Paul.
The family will receive friends Friday April 29th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Twiford’s Chapel in Manteo.

Virginia Resch Callender, 92, of 410 Hastings Lane, Elizabeth City, NC, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Galion, OH, daughter of the late Franklin and Maude Strippy Resch and was the widow of Gene Raymond Callender. She co-owned the Wee Folk Shop children store with her husband, was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Galion, OH, a hospital volunteer, and loved to garden.
Mrs. Callender is survived by a daughter, Melinda ‘Min’ Del Garbino and husband Albert of Shiloh, NC; a sister, Margaret Richardson of Maryville, TN; and two grandchildren, Matthew Del Garbino of Indianapolis, IN, and Heather Rushing and husband Travis of Charlotte, NC. Besides her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Callender, two sisters, Velma Reece and Harriet Dick, and a brother, Robert Resch.

CORA GRAY TWIFORD, 85, of Manteo, died, Saturday, April 23, 2005, in her residence. Mrs. Twiford was born in Washington County, and was a homemaker. She had previously worked as a telephone operator for 15 years and was a member of the cast of the Lost Colony for 22 years and a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Twiford was the daughter of the late Jim and Carrie Ann Oliver Stillman and the wife of Milburn E. ‘Dick’ Twiford.
Besides her husband surviving are two daughters: Debra Twiford Mueller and husband Art of Fuquay-Varina and Penny Twiford Craven and husband David of Raleigh, N.C.; Two sons: Roy Gray and wife Louise and M.E. ‘Buddy’ Twiford and wife Winnie both of Manteo; two sisters: Madlean Noyes and Ann Hilton and husband Frank, two brothers: Eddie Stillman and James Stillman and wife Pat and sister-in-law Louise Stillman, eight grandchildren: Michelle Gray Johnson and husband Scott, E. W. Gray, Sherr’ee Twiford, Whitney Twiford, Joshua Craven, Molly Craven, Lauren Mueller and Arthur Mueller and two great-granchildren.
