ALVIN RONDELL ‘AJ’ GALLOP, JR, infant son of Alvin Rondell and Brandi Datson Gallop, Sr, died, Tuesday, June 28, 2005, in Norfolk, Va.

Besides his parents surviving are two sisters: Alli Gallop and Imani Starr Gallop, three brothers: Tyson Datson, Royden Gallop and Devyn Venning, Maternal grandmother: Casie Richardson of Jarvisburg; Maternal Grandfather: Randy Dean Datson of Princeton, Wv and Paternal Grandmother: Cordelia ‘Pat’ Harris of Camden.

A celebration of life will be in Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Friday, July 1, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Steven King.

LARRY McCOY PARKER, 68, of Kill Devil Hills, NC died Monday, June 27, 2005 in a Norfolk, Va. hospital. Mr. Parker, born in Kitty Hawk, NC, was a retired building contractor and commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Manteo Masonic Lodge # 521 and was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He was the son of the late Ronald Earl Parker, Sr. and the late Alethia Bell Perry Parker.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Donis Beasley Parker of the residence; a daughter, Kimberly Murray and husband, Earl of Kill Devil Hills, NC; two sons, Larry Reid Parker and companion, Beverly O’Leary of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Jamie Scott Parker and wife, Kim also of Kill Devil Hills, NC; three brothers, Claude Parker of Orlando, FL, Ronald E. Parker of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Wayne W. Parker of Dade City, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer Haywood and husband, Mikey Buck, Jamie S. Parker, Jr., Brittany Parker, Sami Jo Murray, and Paige Murray; and two great-grandchildren, Leah and Jordan Haywood.

Funeral services will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and at other times at the residence. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Colington, NC.

Wilburn Burl Mikeal, age 82, of 106 West Broad Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Monday, June 27, 2005 in Albemarle Hospital. He was a native of Wilkes, NC, son of the late Ciscero C. Mikeal and Virgie Welch Mikeal, and was the husband of Margaret Alexander Mikeal of the residence. He was a retired Aircraft Mechanic with the US Coast Guard, ARSC and attended Corinth Baptist Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Joyce Meads of Elizabeth City, NC, and Diane Sawyer and her husband Gary of South Mills, NC; four sisters, Fern Watson of Va. Beach, VA, Muriel Church, and Della Mecum both of Winston Salem, NC, and Nell Smith of North Wilkesboro, NC; two brothers, Frank and Bobby Mikeal both of North Wilkesboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Tara Meads of MA, Holly, Lauren, Erin, and Will Meads all of Elizabeth City, NC, Amanda Greico and her husband Chad, and Alan Sawyer both of South Mills, NC, and one great grandchild, Blake Greico. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Bill Mikeal.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 11:00 AM, in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. David Turner and Rev. Meredith Garrett officiating. Sabra Elizabeth Nance, 49, of 102 Longdale Court, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Southport, NC, on June 1, 1956. Ms.Nance was a former store manager with the Trade Mart Stores in Elizabeth City, NC and Hertford, NC.

Survivors include: her daughters Renee Hines Onley and her husband Jeff of Elizabeth City, NC, Frances Hines Gieseke of Hertford, NC, and Amy Wilkins of Heathsville, VA; one son Daniel Hines, Sr. and his wife Brandy of Delco, NC; her mother Claire Potter Wilkins of Hertford, NC, one sister Marie Midgette of Creswell, NC; three brothers Maxie Nance of Heathsville, VA, Tony Nance of Hertford, NC, and Jackie Nance of Clearwater, FL; her grandchildren Daniel R. Hines, Jr., Gabrielle S. Hines, Charley I. Hines, Madison V. Hines, Izak L. Hines, Samantha B. Onley, Victoria E. Porter and R. Daniel Bradley. She was preceded in death by her stepfather Daniel Wilkins, her brother Willie Nance, and sister Evelyn Nance.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday June 28, 2005, at 3:00 P. M. at the Twiford Memorial Chapel with Rev. Johnny Ikner officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Lawrence ‘L.C.’ Askew, 76, of 1017 Kris Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital. He was born in North Hampton County, NC, son of the late Elton W. Askew, Sr. and Gladys Cook Askew and was the husband of 52 years to Ethel Martin Askew of the residence. He was a retired state highway inspector of 42 years, a member of the Eureka Lodge #317 AF & AM, and was a baptist. Mr. Askew was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was well known and respected throughout the community, and will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife, Mr. Askew is survived by a daughter, Teresa Askew of Portsmouth, VA; two sons, Tim Askew and wife Karen of Elizabeth City, NC, and Dean Askew and wife Kim of Leesburg, VA; a brother, Elton W. Askew, Jr. and wife Sandra of Edenton, NC; and five grandchildren, Christie, Daniel, Drew, Amy, and Ryan Askew.

Carol Fay Temme Hall, 69, of Manteo, NC died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Hazel Smith Temme. She was a retired public school teacher in Stafford, VA, a member of the Lion’s Club in Stafford, VA, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam Era as a nurse.

Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, William Arthur Hall of the residence; a son, Christopher William Hall of Richmond, VA; and a sister, Marie T. Skerritt of Albany, NY.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens by Deacon Don Wobser. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC on Thursday at 10:00 AM.

Virginia Beach ‘ Thomas Michael Brooks Sr., 57 died Friday, June 24 2005. Mr. Brooks was born in Newark, NJ, was a retired longshoreman and in his day was and avid fisherman and hunter. He loved working on vehicles and watching racing. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife Sadie M. Brooks, who dearly loved him; two sons, Thomas Brooks Jr. and Arthur Rapp of VA Beach; two sisters, Lynda Neilsen of Newport News and Theresa Bryant of Manteo, NC; and granddaughter, Heather Rapp of VA Beach.
The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Monday from 6:00 until 7:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 pm. Friends are welcome to pay their respects all day Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Chesapeake ‘ Tony Wayne Shankle, 41, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 23, 2005. Mr. Shankle was born in Galveston, TX to Ceauthary Shankle and the late Helen Shankle. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy.
Mr. Shankle leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Darlene Roberta Shankle; daughters, Sherrie Darcel Larkin and Chante LaToya Larkin; father Ceauthary Shankle; sisters, Evelyn Keel, Marilyn Grant, Cythnia Mills, Patricia Woodley and Carolyn Crockett; brothers, James, Stanley, and Larry Shankle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake with Rev. Johnny McDonald officiating. Clyde Jackson Chesson, Jr. ‘Chuck’, 42, of 1811 Fearing Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, June 24, 2005. He was born in Elizabeth City, son of Betty Bright Chesson and the late Clyde Jackson Chesson, Sr. Chuck was the co-ordinator of Delivery Design for Dominion NC Power where he was employed for 19 years.

Survivors include: his wife Tracey King Chesson, a son Drew Chesson, daughter, Sydney Chesson all the of the home; his mother Betty Bright Chesson of Elizabeth City, NC; two brothers Steve Chesson and his wife Tammy and their children Jordan and Blake, and Tim Chesson and his wife Mary Beth and their children Brianne, Lindsay and Gracie all of Elizabeth City, NC.

Chuck was a wonderfully loving and devoted dad and husband, an active member of Corinth Baptist Church. He enjoyed working with the youth at Corinth, at his children’s schools, and with the local baseball and softball leagues. Chuck coached for more than 16 years.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held Monday, June 27, 2005, at 11:00 A. M. at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to: the Corinth Baptist Church Youth Fund, 1035 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

William Ireland

J. William Ireland, died June 21, 2005. He was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on Sept. 11, 1924. Upon graduating from Mishawaka High School, he served four years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 with a degree in landscape architecture and urban planning. He spent most of his career in Urban Planning and Development.

Before his retirement, he was Executive Director of the Re-development Authority of Clinton County, PA.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn, four children and their spouses: Jennifer and husband Bryan White of Houston, TX, Daniel and wife Susan of New Cumberland, PA, Michael and wife Mindy of Nashville, TN and Todd and wife Lisa of Pittsburgh, PA. He was the proud grandfather of six grandsons: Timothy, Sean, Jarrod, Brennan, Conor and Aidan. He is also survived by two brothers.

Services will be held at Colington United Methodist Church in Colington, NC on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Teresa Holloway and The Reverend Robert Pitsch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colington United Methodist Church P.O. Box 3425, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 and the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
