Hazel Coulson Pence, age 80, of 1403 River Road, Lot 44, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Ada, OK, daughter of the late Myrtle and Robert Coulson, and was wife of the late Kenneth Pence.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin W. McFall, Sr. of Gloucester, VA, and Marvin E. McFall of New Bedford, MA, one brother, L.B. Coulson of OK, and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 3:00 PM in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery, Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC. Margaret Perry Willis Dziedzic, age 88, of 309 Rhonda Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, August 28, 2005, in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Perquimans County, NC, daughter of the late Robert Perry and Maggie Thornton Perry, and was wife of the late Stanley Dziedzic. She was a seamstress.
Mrs. Dziedzic is survived by one son, Willie Whitehead of Elizabeth City, NC, one brother Robert L. Perry of Elizabeth City, NC, six grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Robert ‘Bobby’ Whitehead.

DANNY EDWARD ROWE, 66, of Skyco, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at his residence after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Whelan Rowe of the residence and his son, Woody Rowe and wife, of Buxton, NC. He was born in Stumpy Point and raised in Manns Harbor by his mother Nina Hooper and father, Bruce Rowe. Danny’s brother, Richard Rowe of Manns Harbor preceded him in death by a year.
He was a good husband and father. As many know, he was a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, until he retired.
A memorial service will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Friday, September 9, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dare County Dialysis Center, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954.

Debra Gaffin Lanning, 52, died Monday, August 29, 2005 at Britthaven of the Outer Banks in Nags Head. Ms. Lanning was born in Hartford, CT and was a sub-contractor in the construction business. She was a graduate of Conrad High School in West Hartford, CT, attended Ringling School of Art in Florida and was a long-time resident of Nags Head. Ms. Lanning was the daughter of William and Nancy Johnson Gaffin of Windsor, CT.
Besides her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Sonny ‘Sonia’ Lanning of Nags Head; four step-daughters; Crystal Lanning of Nags Head, Cindy Perkins of Ohio, Candy Lanning and Shawn Enis, both of Nags Head; two sisters, Pam Gaffin of the US Virgin Islands and Lynda Nickel of Loveland, CO; one brother, Jeff Gaffin of Seattle, WA, five step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; her former husband, Albert Lee Lanning of Nags Head.
A memorial service will be held at Britthaven of the Outer Banks on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Daniels officiating. Another memorial service will be held near Jennette’s Pier on the beach and will be announced at a later date. Kyle H. Lovell

KYLE HUGH LOVELL, 44, of Waves, NC, died Saturday, August 27, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Lovell, born in Baltimore, MD, was owner and operator of Kyle’s Heating and Cooling. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Lovell served aboard the USS Mooseburger and excelled in radar and also received a military award of excellence in 1980, upon graduation from Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
Mr. Lovell was the son of Richard Eugene and Jaqueline Amos Lovell of Preston, MD.
Besides his parents, Mr. Lovell is survived by his wife, Linda Michelle Kieffer of the residence; a daughter, Hannah Marie Lovell of Waves, NC; two sisters, Stephanie Lee and husband, Michael of Preston, MD and Stacey Berland and husband, Kevin of Poquoson, VA; two brothers, Coe Lovell and wife, Renee of Salisbury, MD and Clint Lovell of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Fairhaven United Methodist Church, Rodanthe, NC on Friday, September 2, 2005 at 7:00 pm with Rev. J. Chris Noble, II officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarks Bethel United Methodist Church, Salvo, NC 27972.

Luther White
Luther Arundell White, Jr., 77, of 502 Maple Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday August 26, 2005 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. White was born December 14, 1927 in Pasquotank County and was the son of the late Luther A. Sr. and Wilma Sawyer White.
In 1992 he retired from Sprint as a construction foreman. He was a former employee of VEPCO, and member of the First Christian Church. He was teacher of the Clarence G. Castellow Sunday School Class, member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge # 317 A. F. & A. M., a Shriner, member of the Pasquotank Tribe # 8 Improved Order of Red Men, served in the U. S. Army National Guard, a former member of the Elizabeth City Volunteer Fire Department, class president and graduate of the Elizabeth City High School Class of 1945.
Mr. White was active in the First Christian Church serving as head usher and weekly lay minister to the nursing home in Elizabeth City.
Survivors include: his wife of 54 years Emerald Copeland White; his sister-in-law Nevada Copeland Pierce of Elizabeth City, NC; two nieces Sharon Culpepper and her husband Andy of Greenville, NC and Patsy Pierce and her husband Charles Caldwell of Raleigh, NC; two nephews Jeffrey Pierce and his wife Rita Gillis of New Bern, NC and Bruce Sawyer and his wife Carole of Atlanta, GA; and numerous other close relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Monday August 29 at 2:00 P. M. at the First Christian Church with Rev. Michael Barnes and Rev. Bill Roberts officiating. The family will join friends following the service at the church in the church vestibule and other times at the residence.

WILLIAM THOMAS PARSON, 44, of Buxton, died, Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Parson was born in Philadelphia, Pa and was a kind-hearted man who loved animals. ‘He never saw an animal he would not take in.’
He was the son of Rose Evans Parson of Buxton and the late Herbert Parson.
Besides his mother he is survived by his brother, Glenn Parson of Buxton and a sister-in-law, Georgia Parson of Buxton; three nieces, Crystal Lynn Parson, Michelle Lee Parson and Cheryl Ann Parson and one nephew, Herbert Bonner Parson III; Great niece and nephew, Herbert Bonner Parson IV and Alyssa Lynn Lewark.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, August 26, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lighthouse Assembly of God by the Rev. Roger Barnett. Twiford Island Chapel Hatteras is assisting the Parson family.

Glenwood Stallings

Glenwood Eulton Stallings, age 82, of 406 Elcinoca Drive, Elizabeth City NC, passed on to his eternal reward on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in Winslow Memorial Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Stallings was born in Perquimans County, NC, on May 20, 1923. He was the youngest son born to the late Asa Stallings and Eula Winlsow Stallings.
Mr. Stallings is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye Copeland Stallings; one daughter, Glenda F. Tosado and her husband Daniel of Miami, FL; one son Dwayne K. Stallings and his wife Kathy of Hertford, NC. Mr. Stallings is also survived by three grandchildren; grandson, Benjamin A. Tosado of Miami, FL, and granddaughters, Megan L. Stallings of Hertford, NC, and Sara E. Tosado of Miami, FL. Mr. Stallings is survived by one brother, William Joseph ‘Joe’ Stallings of Winfall, NC, and several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Cecil Edward Stallings, John James ‘Johnnie’ Stallings, Woodrow Burton Stallings, Quinton Thomas Stallings, and Asa Elias Stallings.
He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class. His civic work included being an honorary member of the Pasquotank Ruritan Club. During World War II, he served as a merchant seaman and later retired from the Virginia Electric and Power Company after 33 years of service. He loved outdoor hobbies, woodworking, and especially working in his garden. Sharing the produce of his garden to the community was a sincere pleasure he enjoyed.
A funeral service will be Thursday, August 25, 2005, at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with the Rev. Meredith Garrett, and Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and also immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home. Brannon David Abram, age 24, of 2911 Mattox Drive, Chesapeake, VA, died Saturday, August 20, 2005, in Elizabeth City, NC. Mr. Abram, a native of Norfolk, VA, was the son of Harry David Abram, Jr., of Chesapeake, VA, and Deborah Lencmeyer Abram of Elizabeth City, NC. He was a carpenter and a Christian.

Joan Downing Wood
Mrs. Joan Downing Wood, age 68, died Friday, August 19, 2005 from a brain tumor, at her home in Elizabeth City, NC. Mrs. Wood, the daughter of the late Charles and Camilla Wilson Downing was born in Adrian, MI and raised in Britton, MI. She was the wife of Colonel James B. Wood, US Army, Retired, who is also a native of Britton.
She was a graduate of Britton-Macon High School and Eastern Michigan University. Mrs. Wood taught school in Milan High School and Waialua, Hawaii. Mrs. Wood accompanied her husband on military assignments in Kentucky, Hawaii, Missouri, North Carolina, Kansas, Virginia and the Washington, DC area. Also, she made a home for her family in Deerfield, MI and Winter Park, FL while her husband served tours in Vietnam.
Mrs. Wood was an avid volunteer. In 1987 she was the US Army Troop Support Command’s Volunteer of the Year for her exceptional contribution to the St. Louis military and civilian community. Additionally, during various assignments, she spent hundreds of hours as a mentor and confidant to the wives of the soldiers assigned to her husband’s units.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Gaynell, Gwendolyn, and Doris; and two brothers, Clayton and Lewis. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Renee Wice, and husband Mark, of Elizabeth City, NC, and Kimberly Henault, and husband John, of Alexandria, VA; one son, Gregory Wood, and wife Helen, of Collinsville, IL; one sister, Betty Uhl of Bradenton, FL; one brother, Leslie Downing of Britton, MI; and four grandchildren, Kelly Wice, Jared Wice, Sean Wice, and Kelin Henault.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, with the Reverend Richard Bruce of Britton, MI, officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Duane Robinson of Manchester, MI, Jack Patterson of Adrian, MI, Cal Rohrback of St. Johns, MI, Ron Mastie of Saline, MI, Mark Wice of Elizabeth City, NC, and John Henault of Alexandria, VA.
