George William Stacey, IV, 58, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home in Kill Devil Hills, NC on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Born in Charlottesville, VA, June 1, 1948 to Bill and Nancy Stacey, the family moved to Norfolk, VA shortly thereafter. Although he lived in various places as far away as Cairo, San Salvador, and Roanoke, VA, he always thought of Norfolk as his home. As such, he dedicated his life to family, education, and service to his community.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Stacey of the residence; a daughter, Sarah Gates and husband, Jon and their daughter, Morgan also of Kill Devil Hills, and a son, William Stacey and wife, Julie of Jackson, Wyoming; a sister, Sarah of Pfafftown, NC; a brother, Henry of Dyke, VA; as well as many nieces, nephews, five very special lifelong friends, and countless others with whom he felt fortunate to spend his life.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Norfolk, VA, on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 am with Rev. Tom Wilson officiating.

Thomas John Zanin, 54, died unexpectedly at his home in Colington Harbour on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2006.
Tom loved fishing and his life on the Outer Banks. He was a friend to many, always there to lend a helping hand, and never met a stranger. His employment as a sales representative and merchandiser at Mutual Distributing Company gave him the opportunity to meet someone new each day. He will be sadly missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jan, two sons Brian and David Zanin, parents John and Jacquelyn Zanin, brother Mike Zanin, grandson Nicholas Zanin, stepdaughters Heather Estanol and Sarah Gregory and step grandchildren children Alexa Estanol and Jackson Gregory.
A celebration service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Colington United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge at P.O. Box 1696 Manteo, NC 27954.

Shirley Justus Austin

SHIRLEY JUSTUS AUSTIN, 71 of Elizabeth City, NC died at her residence, Wednesday, November 29, 2006. She was the daughter of the late James H. Justus and Edith Whitson Justus and the wife of Gene Austin for over 52 years. Mrs. Austin was a homemaker and was a member of the Berea Baptist Church Order of the Eastern Star Roanoke Island Chapter #79 and South Mills #270. She served as Past Worthy Matron, Order of Amaranth Coastal Court #12.

Other than her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Cathy Buchanan of Elizabeth City, NC, Jennifer Dickenson and husband Dick of Aydlett, NC; one sister, Jean Owens of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Alex Lewis, Teri Simmons, Kimberly and Michael Lundine; two great grandchildren, Kylie Lewis and Brayden Simmons. Mrs. Austin was predeceased by one daughter, Patricia Lynne Austin.

A Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with Bobby Henley officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 8 PM and immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home. JAMES ARKLES BASHAM, 46, of Kill Devil Hills, died, Monday, November 27, 2006, in Nags Head. Mr. Basham was born in Hinton, WV and was a diesel mechanic.

He was the son of James Albert Basham of Richmond, VA and the late Opal Bonds Harris and the step-son of Charles E. Harris of Ashland, VA and formerly married to Deborah C. Basham of Kill Devil Hills.

Besides his father and step-father surviving are one son: Barry James Basham of Richmond, VA; two sisters: Victoria Callis of Louisa, VA, Barbara Waybright of Richmond, VA; and a half sister: Christina Basham also of Richmond, VA; four brothers: Larry E. Basham of Mechanicsville, VA; Eddie Basham of Ashland, VA; Michael Basham of Richmond, VA and Douglas Basham of West Virginia.

Yen Thi Nguyen Knowles, 62, of 111 Bens Bonanza, Barco, NC, died at her residence on Saturday, November 25, 2006. Born in Ankhe, Vietnam on April 5, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Dien huu Nguyen and Do Tran Thi. She was a former cafeteria worker with the Currituck County School System.

Mrs. Knowles is survived by: two daughters, Thanh Jordan Hicks of Jarvisburg, NC and Thuy Hoang Aitken of Moyock, NC; one sister Phuong Nguyen of Vietnam; two brothers Hung Nguyen of Tampa, FL, and Hau Nguyen of Vietnam; six grandchildren Michael Hicks, Allison Hicks, Amber Aitken, Brittany Neuser, Ciara Aitken and Darron Aitken.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday November 29, at 4:00 P. M. at the home of her daughter, Thanh Jordan Hicks, 354 Jarvisburg Road, Jarvisburg, N. C.

Sharifah T. McClean

Virginia Beach- Sharifah Theresa McClean, 32, passed away November 26, 2006. She was a registered nurse at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and a member of Campostella Heights S.D.A. Church. Mrs. McClean was involved in the drama ministry at her church.
She is survived by her loving husband David McClean of 11 years; her two children, Da’quan and Kimoni; her parents, Sylvester and Theresa Reid; her aunts, Veola Glover and Anita Reid; her uncles, John Reid and Aaron Reid; and numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; and extended family.

Richard Springle

RICHARD DAVIS SPRINGLE
Virginia Beach, VA

Richard Davis Springle, Sr., 82, of Virginia Beach, a loving husband and father, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24, 2006. A lifelong resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Richard spent many happy hours on the Chesapeake Bay as an avid sports fisherman. After his retirement as a prominent figure in the automotive sales industry, he and his wife enjoyed riding their bicycles on the many nature trails and boardwalks of Virginia Beach and daily walks through the mall with friends. Richard was a decorated WWII veteran and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was loyal to his friends, his family and to God.

Married 61 years, Richard leaves behind his loving wife Betty and his two sons, Richard Davis Springle, Jr and Terry Wade Springle, as well as ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his daughter Nancy Joyce Taylor.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 10:00am at the New Hollywood Cemetery, Pear Tree Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 with a memorial luncheon to follow at 1:00pm at the Ocean Park Volunteer Fire Station, 3769 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA, 23455.

Irene Littlefield Scarborough, 66, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Britthaven of Outer Banks. Born in Block Island, RI, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Ethel Feeney Littlefield. She was a retired clerk at Nedo Shopping Center and was a member of the Hatteras Assembly of God.

Mrs. Scarborough is survived by her husband, Leon R. Scarborough of the residence; two daughters, Lesley Hickman of Hatteras, NC and Leona Newton of Chapanoke, NC; one son, Leon ‘Rick’ Scarborough of Buxton, NC; two brothers, Lester Littlefield, Jr. of Columbus, GA and Everett Littlefield of Block Island, RI; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Hatteras Assembly of God by the Rev. Ronnie Midgett. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, NC 27605.

Irvin Elwood Johnson, Jr., 63, of 578 Bayside Road, Elizabeth City, N. C. died Thursday November 23, 2006.

Mr. Johnson was born on August 28, 1943 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, and was the son of the late Irvin Elwood Johnson, Sr. and Laurine Pendleton Johnson. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church and served as an Usher. He was a farmer and employed with F. P. Wood, and member of the Weeksville Hunting Club and Jamestown Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Beals Johnson, sons, Adam Elwood Johnson of Creedmoor, N. C. and Irvin Elwood Johnson, III and wife Pam of Frisco, N. C. sisters, Jean J. James and Joyce James and husband Aubrey all of Weeksville, N. C. Angela Sawyer and husband Joe of Elizabeth City,
N. C. Rita Tuttle and husband Paige of Creedmoor, N. C., mother-in-law Ann Beals of Hertford, N. C., sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joy and Albert Rhodes, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Danny and Sue Beals all of Elizabeth City, N. C. sisters-in-law Tighe Simons of Asheville, N. C and Debbie Beals of Upper Marlboro, MD. two grandchildren, nine nephews, six nieces, four great-nephews and five great-nieces.

A funeral service will be held Sunday November 26, at 3:00 P. M. at the Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Jake Mullins and Rev. William Townsend, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.
