Mr. Paul Nathanial Daily, age 93, of 622 Forrest Park Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Winslow’s Memorial Nursing Home. Mr. Daily, a native of Detroit, MI, was the son of the late Edward John Daily and Bessie Gladfelter and the widow of Marie Dicks Daily. He was a Baptist and a retired toolmaker with national Twist Drill and Tool Company.
Mr. Daily is survived by four step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred D. Stafp, and a niece Gail Stapf.
A memorial service will be Friday, December 30, 2005, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Turner at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 1035 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to the charity of one’s choice. Mrs. Eula Virginia White Small, 76, of 401 Hastings Lane, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, December 23, 2005 at Carolina House of Elizabeth City. Mrs. Small, a native of Perquimans County, was the daughter of the late Joseph Patten White and Annie Marie Russell White and the wife of Clyde Vernon Small, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Constance S. Rabon and Lisa S. Sanchez both of Elizabeth City, NC, and Lynn S. Dunn of Calledga, AL; a sister, Pauline White Webb of Hertford, NC; and seven grandchildren.

Eula Mae Chavis Austin, died Monday, December 26, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Austin was born in Carthage, NC and was a homemaker and a member of Frisco Assembly of God.
She was the daughter of the late Cary Lee and Bertha Marson Chavis and the wife of Medford L. Austin of the home.
Besides her husband surviving are two daughters: Carolyn Jean Moreno of Fayetteville, NC and Frances Pope of Dunn, NC; two sons: Larry Carter of Wanchese and Robert Lee Austin of Hatteras; and one grandson: Christopher Shawn Gray. Mrs. Austin was pre-deceased by her son Medford Jerome Austin.
A celebration of life will be held at the Frisco Assembly of God, Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 2:00 PM by the Rev. Roger Barnett and the Rev. Rick Sonnycalf. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Frisco. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with these arrangements.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Eugene Ockuly, 44, of 103 Beechtree Drive, Shiloh, NC, died Friday, December 23, 2005, in Irving, Texas. Mr. Ockuly was born in Quantico, VA. Mr. Ockuly served in the US Navy, and was a Project Superintendent for Commercial Construction. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Catholic.
Survivors include; his devoted wife Lisa Kay Firestone Ockuly, his beloved parents Eugene Ockuly and Nora Felici Ockuly of Clermont, FL., his daughter, Kaylynn Ockuly of Tampa, FL; sister, Linda Horton and husband Ken of Chesapeake, VA; brother, Jef Ockuly of Jacksonville, NC; and two nieces, Stephanie Horton and Melissa Horton, and his devoted pets, Smokey, Bandit and Celli.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 28, at 1:00 P. M. at Holy Family Catholic Church with The Very Rev. James Buchholz, V.F. officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 P. M. to 8:00
P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home, and following the memorial service at the church.

Harry Lee Raper, 63, a former resident of Longview Estates, Hertford, NC, died Friday December 23, 2005, in Guardian Care Nursing Home.
Mr. Raper was born October 31, 1942, in Pasquotank County, and was the son of the late John B. Raper and Mary Lee Stevenson Raper Evans.
He was a former employee with Wonder Bread Company, a member of the Elizabeth City Moose Lodge # 1847 and the Elizabeth City B. P. O. Elks Lodge # 856.
Survivors include: his daughter Michelle Raper of Jacksonville, NC, sons Paul Raper and his wife Brenda and Allen Wayne Raper all of Elizabeth City, NC, Jason Raper of Jacksonville, NC, his sister Joyce Ann Taylor and her husband Robert of Lake Havasu, AZ., brothers Ray Raper and his wife Kathy, George Raper and his wife Linda and Richard Raper and his wife Sharon all of Elizabeth City, NC, Earl Raper of Lake Havasu, AZ., and Ronnie Raper and his wife Leslie of Port Hueneme, CA, his grandchildren; Daniel, Cassandra, Danielle Raper and Joshua Riddick all of Elizabeth City, NC.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 27, at
3:30 P.M. at New Hollywood Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Pendley officiating.

Mrs. Pearl Burgess Williams, age 64, of 100 Sunny Acres Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. Williams was born in Camden County, NC, the daughter of the late Wesley Burgess and Irene Hughes Burgess, and was the wife of George Robert Williams. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Annette Markham of Columbia, NC and Misty East of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, Aubrey Heath of Shiloh, NC; three sisters, Carol Kight of Shiloh, NC; Joyce Morrow of Elizabeth City, NC; and Rebecca Sanderlin of Shawboro, NC; three brothers, Wesley Burgess of Elizabeth City, NC and Ben Burgess and Abner Burgess of Shiloh, NC; seven grandchildren, Amy Heath; Heather Markham; Crystal East; Courtney East; Tabatha Heath Huacos; Amber Heath; and Megan Heath; two great grandchildren, Carlos and Mya Huacos; one special aunt, Catherine Pate of Chesapeake, VA. She was predeceased by three brothers, Hubert, Bill and A.B. Burgess.

Kenneth Blaine Via, 51, of Kitty Hawk, NC died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Via was born in Hershey, PA and was a plumber. He was the son of Marvin Lee Via of Kill Devil Hills and the late, Gloria Ann Corrado Via.
Besides his father, Mr. Via is survived by his step-mother, Rose Savage Via of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a son, Anthony Dean Via of Reston, VA; two sisters, Vicki Via of Falls Church, VA and Linda Lewis of Kitty Hawk, NC; three brothers, Michael Via of Ortonville, MI, Timothy Via of Manassas, VA and Dennis Via of Culpeper, VA.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Colington United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 7, 2005 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Robert Pitsch officiating.
