Dolores T. Coons

Williamsburg ‘ Dolores ‘Dolly’ T. Coons, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family January 30, 2007. Mrs. Coons was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Eugene and Henrietta Paoline. She enjoyed reading, Bible Study and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Sonny Travis, Michael Travis, Edward Travis and Steven ‘Lucky’ Travis; her sister, Jeanette DiMichele; her brothers, Eugene Paoline and Edward Paolini; her half-sisters, Judy Uhlinger, Juanita Wojnar, and Gina Kulpa; her eight grandchildren and one grandchild.
She is predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Demottie.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Twiford Funeral Home, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. The funeral will be held at Good Hope United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Good Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. Sally C. Brown

Kill Devil Hills, NC

Sally C. Brown, 81, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at her residence. A native of Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Judith Ciglar and beloved wife of the late F. George Brown. Over the 55 years they were married, Sally and George made their home in Bridgeport, Burke, VA, and the Outer Banks, where they retired almost 20 years ago.

Sally was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and served as a substitute teacher and literacy program volunteer throughout her adult life. She loved the beach, shopping, convertibles, crossword puzzles, bridge, reading, GEM, Wheel of Fortune, and the Cardiac Rehab in Kitty Hawk.

Left to cherish Sally’s memory are her son, Doug Brown and wife, Bonnie and their daughters, Frieda and Lucy all of Nags Head, NC; a daughter, Debbie Brown and husband, Jerry Tarner of Ponte Vedra, FL; a daughter, Pam Robertson and her sons, Danny and Matthew of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and her youngest daughter, Marti Thomas and her son, Kevin of Kitty Hawk, NC.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the home of Pam Robertson in Kill Devil Hills, where Sally resided for the past 3 years. A memorial service will be held in Bridgeport, CT on March 31, 2007. Audrey Wilson Colson

Mrs. Audrey Wilson Colson, age 75, of 901 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Colson, born in Elizabeth City, NC, was the daughter of Glennie Cartwright Wilson of Elizabeth City, NC, and the late Charlie Wilson, and the wife of Melvin John Colson, Jr., of the residence. She was a homemaker, a member of Woodville Baptist Church, a life member of Coinjock American Legion Post 288 Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Newport News Scottish Rites Ladies Club.

Besides her mother and husband she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Karen Louise C. and Richard Allen McKellar of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Maxine Laura C. and Henry Clifton Ferrell of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters and their husbands, Betty Lou and Paul Bryum of Carrollton, VA, and Charlotte and Billy Hampton of Angier, NC; two brothers, Joe Wilson of Elizabeth City, NC, and Billy Wilson of Poindexter, SC; and two grand-daughters, Tiffany Ferrell and Jessica Ferrell.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jake Mullins officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Jack Forrest Harry

Jack Forrest Harry, 79, of 119 Camellia Drive, Moyock, NC, died Friday, January 26, 2007, at his home. He was born November 21, 1927, in Canton, Ohio, son of the late William and Dorothy Pearson Harry. Mr. Harry was a licensed Mariner, starting his career as an Apprentice Seaman in 1945, and retiring from the sea as a licensed Captain in 1981. After retirement he became a consultant for Government Affairs for the Masters, Mates and Pilots, successfully negotiating many agreements. He was a member of the Moyock United Methodist Church.

Mr. Harry is survived by his wife Erika Harry; his son the Rev. Randolph Harry and wife Kristen and granddaughter Wren of Brevard, NC; his son John Harry of Greensboro, NC; and his daughter Jacqueline Harry of Moyock, NC.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, January 29, at 2:00 PM at the Moyock Memorial Cemetery with his son the Rev. Randolph Harry officiating. The family will receive friends at the home, 119 Camellia Drive, in Moyock, NC. Angel Serna, 67, of Manteo died Monday, January 22, 2007 at his residence. Born in Peru, South America, he was the son of the late Santos and Clara Serna.

Mr. Serna is survived by his wife, Maria Serna of the residence; a daughter, Giovanna Calvillo and husband Luis of Manteo; and a grandson, Luis Calvillo, Jr. of Manteo.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Adrian G. Hard, Jr.

Chesapeake ‘ Adrian Glen Hard, Jr., 66, passed away January 28, 2007. Mr. Hard was born in San Deigo, CA, and served in the U. S. Army for 23 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 39 years, Virginia Hard; his son Adrian G. Hard, III of Chesapeake; his mother, Frances Hard of Kitty Hawk, NC; his mother-in-law Leola Pecsek; his sister, Jeanne Wadkins of Boomer, NC; his brother, Michael Hard of Altamonte Springs, FL; his grandson, Adrian James Hard of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eula M. Jaiser

Moyock- Eula Mae Jaiser, 97, passed away January 27, 2007, surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin M. Jaiser, Sr. and son Alvin M. Jaiser, Jr. She is survived by son William F. Butt, and daughters Mellie M. Maddox and Margaret Ann Connelley, as well as nieces, nephew and dear friends. She was loved by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Jaiser was a member of The Order of Eastern Star since 1952. She was Past Matron of Friendship Lodge #17, OES Rockville, MD. She was Worthy Matron in 1961 and a Life Member. She was a member of LONSA, Zulekia Court #35 and honorary long time member of the Clown Unit.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 31st from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Twiford Colonial Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Twiford Colonial Chapel. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Catherine Childrey Johnson

Catherine Childrey Johnson, 92, died Tuesday January 23, 2007 at the W. R. Winslow Memorial Home in Elizabeth City, N. C.

Mrs. Johnson was born on June 25, 1914 in Henrico County, Richmond, VA., and was the daughter of the late Thomas Louis Childrey and Ida May Lambert Childrey. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Fleming Johnson.

She was a former member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA., and a member of the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, N. C. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include her daughter; Patricia J. Watson of Burnt Mills, N. C. her son, Thomas C. Johnson of Littleton, CO., six grandchildren, Kamala Madden, Timothy Watson, Jennifer Watson, Jamie Watson, Kevin Watson and Neal Watson and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will have a private memorial service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter Patricia J. Watson, 900 North NC Highway 343, Camden, N. C.

Louis Cecil Smithson, 76, of 1075 US Hwy 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Smithson was born in Camden County, N.C. He was the son of the late Raynor Smithson and Bettie Jones Smithson.

Sariyah Nicole Tate, infant daughter of David Mitchell Tate, III and Brittnee Starr Jordan, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Duke Medical Center.

Besides her parents, Sariyah is survived by maternal grandmother, Paulette Daniels of Wanchese; maternal great grandfather, Apple Daniels of Wanchese; paternal grandmother, Brenda Tate of Wanchese; paternal great grandmother Beverly Midgette of Wanchese; and paternal great grandfather, Mitchell Tate of Belhaven. She was preceded in death by maternal great grandmother, Lizzette Daniels.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Wanchese Assembly of God by Rev. David Daniels, Dr. David Dalton, and Rev. Jim Schuelke.
