Elsie R. Waldinger
Chesapeake ‘ Elsie R. Waldinger, 89, of Parson’s Residential Care Center passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2007. She was born in The Bronx, NY, NY to the late Albert and Herminie Elisher Ruof. Mrs. Waldinger lived in the Bronx and Lakehurst, NJ for many years before moving to Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Waldinger; sister, Bertha Prendergast and grandson, Russell J. Budd.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Albert A. Budd and wife Geraldine of Chesapeake; sister, Mary McDonough of Kendall Park, NJ; grandchildren, Michael A. Budd of the Philippines, Thomas A. Budd and wife Carol of Portsmouth, Janet Levai of St. Petersburg, FL, Lynne Murphy and husband Roger of Palm Harbor, FL, Mark A. Budd of VA Beach and Jerry W. Snow and wife Jacqueline of Chesapeake; great grandchildren, Kelly Budd of Jersey City, NJ, Laura Budd of Portsmouth, Nicole Whipple of Ocala, FL, Blaise Levai of St. Petersburg, FL, and Brian Wesley Snow of Chesapeake; a special nephew, Michael Prendergast and wife Maura of Staten Island, NY; niece Jeannie Daly and husband Ed of Kendal Park, NJ; and nephews, John Prendergast and wife Rose of NY and Johnny Korabeck of WI.
Mrs. Waldinger lived several happy years at First Colonial Inn, VA Beach before moving to Parsons Residential Care Center. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in VA Beach. Special thanks to them and to Prince of Peace Catholic Church of Chesapeake for their visitations and the comfort they provided her. Also a special thanks to the Great Bridge Baptist Church Women’s ministry and the Fellowship Sunday School Class for the cards and remembrances. The family wishes to thank Parsons Residential Care Center and Comfortcare Hospice of Chesapeake for the wonderful care provided.
Memorial services will be held at Twiford Colonial Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake on Friday at 1:00 pm with Deacon Nick Marino and Pastor Raymond Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Maple, NC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to a charity of ones choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.

Nina Haywood Miller
Kill Devil Hills, NC
Nina Haywood Miller, 83, of 110 Baum Bay Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC died Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Outer Banks Hospital. A native of Dare County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Manie and Gladys Meekins Haywood and was the widow of Errol Durwood Miller. She and her husband owned First Flight Texaco for many years. Many people will remember her from all her years at Miller’s Pharmacy in Nags Head.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nicole Miller and a son-in-law, William Tolson.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Carol Tolson of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a son, Errol D. Miller, Jr. and wife Nell of Como, NC; a sister, Shirley Gunnet of Kill Devil Hills, NC; four grandchildren, Stephanie Kenna and husband Gregory of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Heather Tolson of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Kristi Burris and husband Chris of Charlotte, NC, and Charles Miller and wife Aleca of Grandy, NC; and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk. The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

Michael Paul McNaughton
Michael Paul McNaughton, 51, of 2923 Main Street Ext., died Monday February 26, 2007 at the Albemarle Hospital. He was born November 7, 1955 in Pasquotank County.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Franklin McNaughton, Jr., and was a member of the Berea Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother; Frances Harris McNaughton, sister, Peggy Ann McNaughton of Elizabeth City, NC., his brother, Charles F. McNaughton, III of Elizabeth City, NC.
No funeral services are planned at this time.

Asad Scott Masri, 43, died Monday, February 26, 2007. He was born in Charlottesville, VA.
Scott is survived by his mother, Linda Scott Masri of Midlothian, VA; his father, Dr. Asad M. Masri of Alexandria, VA; his wife, Barrett Emerson Masri of the residence; two sisters, Nadia Masri Carney of Virginia Beach, VA and Tanya Masri Todaro of McLean, VA; and one brother, David Neal Masri of Midlothian, VA.

Rita Margaret Meekins Gray
RITA MARGARET MEEKINS GRAY, 73, of Avon died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 in Nags Head. Mrs. Gray was born in Avon and was a homemaker and member of Avon Worship Center. She was the daughter of the late Morris Jensen and Evelyn Gray Meekins and the wife of the late Charlie C. Gray.
Surviving are four sons: Chuck Gray and wife Pamela of Windsor, NC, Dale Gray, Shawn Gray and wife Wendy and Kendall J. Gray all of Avon and 8 grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was pre-deceased by her sister Elene Gray.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in Avon Worship Center by Rev. Bryan Gray and Johnny Chase. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Edmund P. A. “Tony” Wilson
Kill Devil Hills, NC
Edmund P. A. Wilson, known to his friends as Tony, died February 25, 2007 at the age of 65 surrounded by friends and family. Tony was born in Harrisburg, PA, September 15, 1941 the son of Edmund and Eleanor Wilson. A Vietnam Veteran, Tony served our nation’s navy for 20 years as an officer on several surface ships beginning with the USS BORIE. As a young Lieutenant Tony quickly impressed his CO as a highly motivated officer with high potential and was sent to the US Navy’s Destroyer School as a precursor to a position as aide for Rear Admiral Ben Picket. Tony then became Weapons Officer aboard the USS ROBERT H. MCCARD. Following his tour on the MCCARD, Tony was promoted to CO of the USS PHOEBE (MSC-199) a coveted position for such a junior officer. This tour would come to be the highlight of his Naval Career as the small crew formed a tight unit and shared many harrowing experiences during operation Market Time. After receiving his masters from the navy’s postgraduate school in Monterey California Tony began a transition towards man-power analysis beginning with his work in the Pentagon, followed by a tour on the DAHLGREN and culminating with his work at CINCLANTFLT. His success helped to propel his career in retirement to an executive position in a private government contracting firm. His final career move was to fulfill a lifetime entrepreneurial goal as a businessman in Kill Devil Hills, NC as owner of KDH Amoco and Bayside Towing.
He is survived by his two son’s and their wives Christopher & Laura Wilson of Virginia Beach and Timothy & Markie Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia. Additional survivors include his 4 grandchildren Erica, Charles, Julia and Nathaniel and previous wife Carolyn S. Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo, NC at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007 with Deacon Don Wobser officiating. His remains will be laid to rest in the Arlington National Cemetery.

Mary Ann Scott Chadwick, 86, of 5307 Eulace Road, Jacksonville, Florida, died Monday, February 26, 2007. Mrs. Chadwick was born in Pasquotank County, NC., and was the daughter of the late Clarence L. Scott and Minnie Chappell Scott and the widow of Robert E. Chadwick.
Mrs. Chadwick is survived by one son, Donald Dexter Chadwick and wife, Elaine of Jacksonville, Florida, one brother, Edward Scott of Elizabeth City, NC. one sister Elizabeth Jordan of Raleigh, NC, four grandchildren and three-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday March 2, from 10:00 A. M. until the funeral hour. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 2, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bill Bailey officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery.

Russell Hawk

Russell Edward Hawk, 45, of 1407 Goldie Street, Kill Devil Hills, NC died Monday, February 26, 2007 at his residence. Born in Palmer, TN, he was the son of Carolyn Coffelt Morris of the residence and the late Hubert D. Hawk. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his step father, William Morris. He will be missed greatly by his family at The Dunes Restaurant where he was employed for seventeen years and was the evening manager.
Besides his mother, Mr. Hawk is survived by five sisters, Joyce Hawk of the residence, Lisa Russell and husband Mike of Cowen, WV, Patty Howell and husband Darrell of Rock Hill, SC, Billie Jo Hamrick and husband Shandell of Webster Springs, WV, and Debbie Booker and husband Trey of Richmond, VA; a brother, Bill Morris and wife Kim of Cowen, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Burial will be in Tennessee. A reception to celebrate the life of Russell will be held at The Dunes Restaurant on Thursday, March 1, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Jay Samuel DeVore, MD, 64, died Sunday, February 18, 2007 at his residence. Born in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Jacque and Nellie Liddel DeVore. He was an anesthesiologist, a member of St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Marie DeVore of the residence; a daughter, Suzzane Lunney of Tampa, FL; and three nieces, Marynelle Chew of Hawaii and Jeanne and Katie DeVore both of Chicago, IL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stewart and Duane DeVore.
A memorial service to be held at St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 4:00 pm.
