Melva H. Doxey
Barco ‘ Melva ‘Nettie’ Hampton Doxey, 88, passed away peacefully, March 27, 2007. She was born in Aylett , NC to the late Henry and Pearl Hampton.
Mrs. Doxey is survived by her son Kenneth Mathews of Charlottesville, VA; her two grandchildren, Kevin Mathews and Stephanie Mathews; her three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, and Kacey Mathews; her brother, Bucks Hampton of Aydlett, NC. She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Luciain, Bobby, Russell Hampton and her sister, Junanita Colonna.
The funeral service will be held at Grandy Assembly of God, March 29, 2007, at 1:00pm. Twiford Colonial Chapel in Chesapeake is in charge of the service. Condolences may be expressed at www.twifordfh.com.

John Zahorchak
John Zahorchak, 90, of 1538 Clubhouse Road, Elizabeth City, died March 29, 2007, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Zahorchak was born September 24, 1916, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and was the son of the late Wadislov Zahorchak and Barbara Zuros Zahorchak. He was preceded in death by his first wife Emma Cornelius Zahorchak.
Mr. Zahorchak was a retired chemical operator with Merck & Co.
Survivors include his wife; Georgia Medway Zahorchak, son; John Zahorchak of Sharon, MA., daughters Linda Sterling and husband David of Winfield, IL., Kathleen Hedrick and husband George of Killingworth, CT., Joan Huston and husband Richard of Deep River, CT., Shelley Quidley and husband Mace of Camden, N. C. Darla Ozanne and husband Jeffrey of Elizabeth City, NC., fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday April 1, at 2:00 P.M. at the New Life Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Clay Manos and Pastor Scott Neal officiating. Immediately following the funeral service the family will have a private interment at West Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening March 31, from 7:00 P. M. to 8:30 P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Trueblood Gray
Mrs. Mary Lou Trueblood Gray, 68, a former resident Sanford Drive, Elizabeth City, N.C., died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. Mrs. Gray, a native of Pasquotank County, was the daughter of the late James Monroe Trueblood and Alice Lister Trueblood and was wife of Warren Davis Gray. She was a member of City Road United Methodist Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Gray is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas Glen Gray of Waynesboro, VA; two sisters, Annette T. Voliva of Roswell, NM, and Joan T. Bryan of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, William James ‘Bill’ Trueblood and Fred Allen Trueblood both of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren, Michael Andrew Gray and Jennifer Michelle Gray. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Marguerite T. Nagel.
A funeral service will be held Sunday April 1, at 2:00 P. M. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Para Drake-Bohn officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. ISABELLE LYNN SHERWIN, infant daughter of Grant Howard and Toni Jones Sherwin died March 20, 2007 in Killeen Texas.

W. Eldon Grandy
W. Eldon Grandy, 67, of Grandy, NC died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Grandy was born in Grandy, NC to the late Willie and Inez Barco Grandy and was the husband of Phyllis Crane Grandy. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was co-owner of the Soundside Orchard and formerly served in the Army National Guard.
Besides his wife, Mr. Grandy is survived by one son, W. Eldon ‘Buddy’ Grandy, Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Barco, NC; a brother, Tommy R. Grandy and wife, Sheila, of Grandy, NC and a grandson, Tyler William Grandy, of Barco, NC.

Evelyn Waterman Fisher
SOUTHERN SHORES, NC
EVELYN WATERMAN FISHER, 69,of Southern Shores, died Tuesday March 27, 2007 in Norfolk, VA. Mrs. Fisher was born in Shelby County, Ohio and was retired as a Registered Nurse with Ohio State University Hospital.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of Outer Banks Presbyterian Church and served in the choir, she was a Red Cross blood drive volunteer and an auxiliary member of the Southern Shores Fire Dept.
She was the daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude Egbert Waterman and the wife of the late Thomas Billy Fisher.
Surviving are one daughter: Brenda S. Fisher; three sons: Thomas B. Fisher, Glenn P. Fisher and David C. Fisher; one sister: Shirley Dicke and two brothers: William Waterman and Russell Kyburz. Mrs. Fisher had five granddaughters, four grandsons and one great grandson.
A service of remembrance will be at Outer Banks Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 5:30 PM by the Rev. Andrew Martinez. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 930 B Wellness Drive Greenville, NC 27834.

Aileen Burgess Roberts
Mrs. Aileen Burgess Roberts, 74, of 141 Texas Road, Shiloh, NC, was called to be with her Lord Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Brian Center in Hertford. Mrs. Roberts, a native of Camden County, was the daughter of the late Wilson Jones Burgess and Pollie B. Burgess. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and a great friend to all who new her. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and retired from Environmental Services from Albemarle Hospital.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by a daughter, Janelle Roberts Carter, and her husband Steve of Camden, N. C. son, Wilson Jeffrey Roberts of Fernandina Beach, FL; brother, Wilse Burgess of Camden, NC; five grandchildren, Javen Skyler Carter, Alli Belle Carter, Henry, Meaghan and Matthew Roberts, and her former husband Giffard Kenneth Roberts of Elizabeth City, N. C. She was pre-deceased in death by two sons, James Michael Roberts and Kenneth Lorin Roberts.
A funeral service will be Friday, March 30, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Toni Wood officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. Julian Lutrell Perry
Julian Lutrell Perry, 86, of the 3000 block of Main Street Extended, Elizabeth City, N. C., died at his residence on Wednesday, March 28.
Mr. Perry was born in Elizabeth City and was the son of the late Joseph Thomas Perry and Julia Hassell Perry Pritchard. Mr. Perry was the widower of Edna Hope Blanchard Perry.
Mr. Perry joined the US Navy in 1937. He served on active duty for twenty years and in the Fleet Reserve for ten years following his retirement. He was a member of the commissioning crew of the USS Yorktown and fought in the invasion of Guadalcanal, Gela, Sicily and St. Tropez, France. Chief Perry received a Commendation from the Commander of the Atlantic fleet in recognition of his efforts in refloating the USS Missouri when she ran aground off Thimble Shoals. After his retirement from the Navy he was employed at Little Creek Amphibious Base and earned a commendation for his forty-six years of government service.
Mr. Perry is survived by his daughter, Brenda Perry Ashburn of Elizabeth City, and her husband Bill, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Perry and Urner Perry.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday March 30, at 4:00 P. M. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Elizabeth City, with Rev. Glenn Greenway officiating. The family will receive friends at his residence.

Thomas Craig Williams
Mr. Thomas Craig Williams, age 57, of 779A Highway 158, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Williams, a native of Elizabeth City, NC, was the son of Thomas Bryant Williams of Dinwiddie, VA and the late Mary Marsh Williams. He was a Catholic and an Assistant Manager for Sampson Bladen Company.
Besides his father he is survived by two sons, Christopher Williams of Mechanicsville, VA, and Stephen Williams of Prince George, VA; two sisters, Dorothy Jefferies of Colonial Heights, VA, and Patricia Miller of Applevalley, CA; and one brother, Brian Williams of Elizabeth City, NC.

Robert Southard
Southern Shores, NC
Robert Arthur Southard, 81, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Voorhees Southard and was the widow of Joan Stoddart Southard. He was a retired salesman in the steel industry and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.
Mr. Southard is survived by four sons, Gregg Southard of Manteo, NC, Gary Southard of Tewksbury, MA, Jonathan Southard of Indiana, PA, and Timothy Southard of Whippany, NJ; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo.
