On August 30, 2007, Carey Marie Le Sieur passed away after a courageous battle against cervical cancer.

She was survived by her husband of 14 years, Robin Gerald, her parents, Claude and Marie Le Sieur of Lewes, Delaware, her mother in law, Katherine Gerald, her sister, Jennifer Janssen, brother in law, Mark and her niece Madison of Overland Park, Kansas and her aunt and uncle Virginia and John Maxwell of Livingston, Texas.

Carey attended Westhampton College of the University in Richmond, graduating summa cum laude. She attended Columbia School of Nursing and received her Masters in Nursing at the University of North Carolina. Her first job as a nurse was at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, as Assistant Head Nurse in the emergency room. She was a traveling nurse in Hawaii and was also employed by the Visiting Nurses Association in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. She spent over ten years employed by the Hatteras Medical Center on Hatteras Island as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She was an active member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head and a member of the altar guild.

Carey loved dancing, gardening, music, cooking and caring for those around her. She never forgot her friend’s birthdays. She enjoyed entertaining with friends, going to the beach and her cats.

She loved her job at the clinic, the people she worked with and all her patients. She was a generous wife, daughter, niece, sister, aunt, nurse and dear friend. She lived her life to the fullest, embracing all that it had to offer. We celebrate her life.

Services will be held Monday, September 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, 4212 South Virginia Dare Trail Nags Head, North Carolina 27959 with a reception to follow. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the family.

Mrs. Alyce ‘Beanse Webster

Mrs. Alyce ‘Beansie Savard Burns Webster, age 100, was born in Fall River, MA, March 6, 1907 to Alfred and Elizabeth Wood Savard. She had four siblings: Millie Savard Lawton, Ida Savard Parkinson, Alfred Nelson Savard, who only lived six days, and Rev. Dr. John A. Savard. She was married to Thomas Burns II, and had one son, Thomas Burns, Jr., in 1927. Tom Burns II was a merchant marine who was lost at sea in 1942 during WW II. In 1951 she married George Webster who passed away in 1979.

‘Beansie’ worked as a welder during World War II at Kaiser Shipyard; and also worked as a seamstress, studio photographer, and crossing guard. She became a Christian at the age of eleven. She was a member of the Baptist Temple in Fall River. After moving to Virginia, she became a member of First Baptist Church, Woodbridge. For the last twenty-seven years she was a proud member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She has been living with her son Tom and his wife Hilda since 1998.

She has one granddaughter, Debbie-Beth Mutzabaugh; one ‘grandson,’ Gary Mutzabaugh, Debbie-Beth’s husband; two great-granddaughters, Trace Smith and Kelly Williams; and two ‘great-grandson,’ Steve Smith and Ricky Williams, husbands of Traci and Kelly. And’she was the proud momma of Libby, her cat.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Meredith Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. Alton “Mac” Twyne

Alton McAdoo ‘Mac’ Twyne, 85, of Manteo, NC died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 in a Nags Head nursing home. Mr. Twyne was born in Manteo and was a retired fire fighter with the NC Forest Service. He was the son of the late George Brinton and Bernie Rogers Twyne. He is also preceded in death by his son, Alton M. Twyne, Jr., and two brothers, Brennan M. Twyne and Wiley Twyne.

Mr. Twyne is survived by his wife, Elma Twiford Twyne of the residence; two daughters, Carole T. Whittington and Anita M. Twyne both of Manteo, NC; two brothers, Howard K. Twyne of Winston-Salem, NC and Donovan F. Twyne of Manteo; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Rosa Jean Mann of Manns Harbor, NC; eight grandchildren, Joshua Whittington and Amanda Baker both of Manteo, NC, Roni Whittington of Nags Head, NC, Sascha Stroebert, Sebastian Stroebert, Sierra Stroebert, Desirre’ McMurran and Desmond McMurran all of Manteo, NC; two great-grandchildren, Janiaz Baker of Manteo, NC and Christina Moldoven of Nags Head, NC; and eleven nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 4:00 pm with Rev. John Charles officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mac Twyne Special Fund, c/o State Employees Credit Union to help with medical expenses.

Norma Rose Bonney

Norma Rose Bonney, 77, of 1300 W. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, August 27, 2007, in the Outer Banks Hospital. She was born in Hyde County, NC to the late Theodore and Bonnie Cuthrell Rose and the widow of the late Benjamin Ray Bonney, Sr. Mrs. Bonney was a member of the City Road United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter # 44.

Mrs. Bonney is survived by a daughter, Sue B. Gregory and husband, Don of Gates, NC, two sons, Benjamin Ray Bonney, Jr. and wife, Wanda of Southern Shores and Roger Wayne Bonney and wife, Barbara of Raleigh; three sisters, Joanna White of Elizabeth City, NC, Marian Heilman of Petersburg, VA and Paula Attix of Lynchburg, VA.; two brothers, Ted Rose of Hampton, VA and Jerry Edward Rose of Raleigh, NC. Also, she is survived by five grandchildren, Melinda G. Byrum, Don Gregory, Jr., Dennis Gregory, Jennifer Bonney and Katrina Stone and five great grandchildren, Victoria, Catherine, D. J., Dillon, and Aaron. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Maegan Gregory.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 30, 2007, at 11:00am in the Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church St., by Rev. Scott Sukeforth. Vivian Grace Guns, 59, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at her residence. Born in Lima, Peru, she was the daughter of Graciela Escudero DeEllis of Lima, Peru and the late Charles B. Ellis. Mrs. Guns was a homemaker, a parishioner of Holy Redeemer By the Sea Catholic Church, a member of the Outer Banks Cancer Center, and was ‘everyone’s mother.’

Besides her mother, Mrs. Guns is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Guns, Sr. of the residence; five daughters, Michelle Baker-Guns and husband Guy of Corning, NY, Cherie Storm and husband Bill of Aspen, CO, Aimee Addison and husband Gerald of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Katelyn and Samantha Rogers both of Kill Devil Hills, NC; five sons, Kenneth ‘Gunsie’ Guns, Jr. and wife Meredith, Kevin Guns, Kurt Guns, Brandon Rogers and Josh Rogers all of Kill Devil Hills, NC; one sister, Frances Ramirez and husband Pedro of Lima, Peru; and ten grandchildren.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Dr. William F. Walsh,osfs at Holy Redeemer By the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, NC on Monday, September 3, 2007. Freddie Davis

FREDDIE DAVIS, 62 of 340 Weigh Station Road, Hertford NC died Monday morning August 27, 2007 at his residence. He was a native of Pasquotank county son of Vivian Crank Davis of Elizabeth City NC and then late Fred Davis and was the husband of Merle Temple Davis. Mr. Davis was an Insurance Adjuster and a veteran of the US Army and Navy.

Besides his wife and mother he is survived by three children; Freddie, IV, Mike and Shannon; one step-son Wayne Barnett; two brothers Leonard Davis and Jack Davis both of Elizabeth City NC, and his faithful companions Stanley and Candy.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM in New Hollywood Cemetery by Rev. Glenn Greenway. The family will be at the home, 340 Weigh Station Road, Hertford, NC. Andy Jefferson Barbour

Andy Jefferson Barbour, 76, of 6643 Caratoke Highway, Grandy, NC died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Hurt, VA to the late Elijah Jackson and Julia Brooks Barbour and was the husband of Ella Emerson Barbour. Mr. Barbour was an USAF veteran, a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Smithfield VA, and had retired in 1999 after forty years as an interior/exterior painter.

Besides his wife, Ella, of 56 years, he is survived by one son, Jefferson Brian Barbour of Grandy, NC; four daughters, Kathy B. Yasika of Norfolk, VA, Ginger B. Moss of Smithfield, VA, Robin B. Gray of Camden, TN, and Sandra B. Hudgins of Gloucester, VA; a brother, Oscar Barbour of Madison Heights, VA; a nephew, Wayne Barbour of Ruffin, NC; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Andy J. Barbour, Jr. and three sisters, Pearl B. Cook, Florine B. Edwards, and Janie B. Weeks.

Mildred James Sivills, 104, of 1075 US Highway 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC, the daughter of the late Hodges and Etta White James and the widow of Wilson Sivills. She was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sivills is survived by two sons, John W. Forbes, Jr. of Currituck, NC, and Lewis L. Forbes and wife Shirley of Albuquerque, NM; a brother, Herbert James and wife Marie of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, John W. Forbes, III, Debbie Anderson, Angie Aydlett, Bernie Forbes, and Felicia Ryder; seven great grandchildren, Erin Anderson, Heather Anderson, Rachel Aydlett, Benjamin Aydlett, Christine Forbes, Rachel Ryder, and Jackson Ryder; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Forbes, two sisters, Mattie Lou Bateman and Viola Crowder, and two brothers, Elmo James and John James.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 2:00 pm in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Max Edwards and Rev. Scott Wilson-Parsons officiating. Wayne Wright Massey, Jr., 79, of 102 Continental Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, August 26, 2007, in the Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Wayne M. Massey, Sr. and Lillie Eason Massey. Mr. Massey was a member of the First Baptist Church and the E.C. Rotary Club and was retired vice-president and store manager of Belk’s. He was an U. S. Army veteran.

Mr. Massey is survived by his wife, Elva Keech Massey of Belhaven, NC, a daughter, Dr. Marga Massey and her husband, Dr. Dhensh Gupta of Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Wright Massey and wife, Kimri, of Orlando, FL and Shawn W. Massey and wife, Dawn of Edenton, NC; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Spence.

Kleopatra Pisani

The warm and loving spirit and soul of Kleo Pisani has peacefully moved on. On August 23, 2007, Kleo took her last few breaths in the hands of her devoted husband of 36 years, Kenneth Pisani, and two adoring daughters, Lara O’Neal and Jennifer Ashby.

Born in Germany on August 3, 1945, Kleo was the daughter of Arkady and Zina (Orlova) Borsuk. She is survived by husband, Ken Pisani; daughters, Lara O’Neal and Jennifer Ashby; sons-in-law, Colby O’Neal and Anson Ashby; grandchildren, Caleb and Braden O’Neal; a sister, Sophie Borsuk. Kleo and Ken moved from Franklin, NJ to Manteo, NC in 1997. Lara and Colby also live in Manteo. Jennifer and Anson live in San Diego, CA.

Kleo was the heart of her home, always putting her family first. Kleo took the utmost pride in her family and instilled her love, morals, and life lessons into her daughters. Her guidance and love will always be within the hearts of her daughters and the strong bond that Kleo and Ken share will forever be with Ken.

Kleo touched the life of everyone she met, inspiring them with her unconditional love and passion for life. Always treating others with respect, Kleo was a woman of dignity and grace. Her calm confidence, unwavering strength, and determination served her well in her 10 years of living with cancer. She is an angel, a miracle, and all who know her are truly blessed. Her memory and love will forever be in our hearts.
