HAROLD NORMAN MARCH, 76, of Kitty Hawk, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 28, 2006. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, son of Edwin and Sarah Martin March. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Hilda Mae Mathieu March.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Darlene March Jones and her husband David William Jones of Kitty Hawk; by his granddaughter, Sara Mae Jones Price, her husband John E. Price and their daughter Hannah Mae Price, his only great grandchild, of Augusta, Georgia.

Harold made his home in Spencer, Massachusetts and worked at Harrington and Richardson Manufacturing for 25 years. He served in the 181st Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard of Massachusetts. In 1983 he retired to the Outer Banks where he started his own landscaping business. He loved to sing and was active in the Barbershop Chorus of the Outer Banks. He was a devoted Salvation Army bell ringer for many Christmas Seasons, and a volunteer driver for Dare County transportation. He participated in the NC Senior Olympics Games winning medals in Silver Arts, pool and croquet.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, friends may give memorial contributions to The Salvation Army, PO Box 1967, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to the charity of their choice.

Blanche C. Baccus

Blanche Chappell Baccus, 91 of 103 Powell Court, Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, December 30, 2007 in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Edenton, NC to the late Norman and Josephine Raper Chappell and was the widow of the late Rev. Irving R. Baccus. Mrs. Baccus was a member of the Fountain of Life Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by a son, Irving R. ‘Sonny’ Baccus, Jr. of Elizabeth City, a brother, Elwood ‘Bud’ Chappell and a nephew, Robert Boyette of Chesapeake, VA. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma ‘Shirley’ Boyette and Hazel Garrett.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, January 3, 2008, at 2:00pm in the Twiford Funeral Home, Northside Chapel, by Rev. Roland Cooper. Burial will be in the New Hollywood Cemetery. Cader P. Harris

Cader Perry Harris, Jr., age 88, of 200 Pine Lake Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Harris, a native of Elizabeth City, NC, was the son of the late Cader Perry Harris, Sr., and Minnie Bray Harris and the husband of Mary Tudor Harris of Elizabeth City, NC.
Mr. Harris graduated from North Carolina State University in 1940 with a degree in chemical engineering and worked for Dupont. He shortened his engineering career and returned home to Eliabeth City to help his father operate his clothing business, Cader Harris & Son. Mr. Harris continued to own and operate this Elizabeth City mainstay for decades.
Mr. Harris was a lifetime member of The First Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons. During his life, Mr. Harris was dedicated to providing community service throughout the Elizabeth City and Albemarle area. He served on both the City Council and the County Commission. He actively served in numerous organizations and boards, including Boys Club, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Downtown Business Association and Albemarle Hospital Board of Trustees. He was one of the founders of the HOPE Group, an association dedicated to encouraging racial and cultural cooperation. In 2002, Mr. Harris received the prestigious Nancy Susan Reynolds award in recognition of his efforts to improve racial harmony.
Mr. Harris is survived by is wife, Mary Tudor Harris; his daughter, Cindy Perry Harris; his son, Robert Charles Harris; a stepdaughter and three stepsons; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Horner.
A memorial service will be at The First Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Vivian Senf

Vivian B. Senf, born March 17, 1915, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2006. She was the daughter of the late John and Carrie Wooten Brown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Horace F. Parker and Elmer ‘Poss’ U. Midgett; two sisters, Julia B. Lawrence and spouse Herbert and Helen Ward and spouse Herbert; and two brothers, John A. Brown and William ‘Buck’ Brown.

She was the long time owner and operator of the ‘Vivianna Motel’. She was also a long standing member of the Manteo Baptist Church and loved to witness about her Lord whenever given the opportunity.

She leaves behind her husband Arthur Senf; one son, John T. ‘Tommy’ Midgett; one grandson, Alex Midgett; and one sister-in-law, Louise Brown. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Colony Chapel by the Rev. Ken Simpson. Burial will be in Manteo Cemetery. Maude Etheridge Daniels

MAUDE ETHERIDGE DANIELS, 84, of Wanchese, died Thursday December 28, 2006, at 4:45 am at her residence following a long illness. A native of Wanchese, Maude was a member of the Wanchese Assembly of God and served as the ladies adult Sunday school teacher for over 50 years and also served as the Women’s Ministries president.

She was the wife of the late Malcolm Spencer Daniels founder of Wanchese Fish Company and Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant in Wanchese and the daughter of the late Willie R. and Mamie Perry Etheridge. She was preceded in death by her brother, Willie R. Etheridge, Jr and her grandson, Elliot Curtis Daniels. Mrs. Maude Daniels is survived by four daughters, Faith D. Miller of Wanchese, Nan D. Channer of Mizzoula, Montana, Esther D. Wilder of Jacksonville, Fla and Amy D. Lanier of Wauchula, Fla, eleven sons, Kenny Lou Daniels, Malcolm (Apple) Daniels,Jr, William (Punk) Daniels, Rev. David Daniels, Timothy B. Daniels, Michael P. Daniels, Joey R. Daniels, Chris E. Daniels, Mark W. Daniels, Tom Bill Daniels and Sam C. Daniels. Mrs. Maude Daniels is survived by 53 gradchildren, 28 great grand children and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of the life of Maude Daniels will be held Sunday December 31, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in Wanchese Assembly of God by Dr. David Dalton, Rev. Charles Etheridge and Rev. Carroll Daniels. Burial will follow in Cudworth Cemetery in Wanchese. Friends may join the family at Twiford’s Funeral Home Saturday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the family.

Gladys Lucinda Williams

Gladys Lucinda Williams, age 87, of the 100 block of McMorrine Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Albemarle Hospital. Ms Williams, a native of Pasquotank County, was the daughter of the late Billy Williams and Chloa Roach Williams. She was a long-time cook at the Caf on Poindexter Street and at Pine Lakes Country Club and was a caregiver for many children who loved her. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Ms Williams is survived by a half-sister, Mable Burke; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Essie Williams and Carrie Williams Brown, two brothers, Billy Williams, Jr., and Celery Williams, and two half-brothers, Thedo Burke and H. B. Perkins.

A funeral service will be Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin MacDonald officiating and a eulogy by the Rev. Wayne Pearsall. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Gardens. Margaret Wade Reed Small

Margaret Wade Reed Small, of Weeksville, NC, died at her residence on Thursday, December 28, 2006. Mrs. Small, the daughter of Margaret V. Harrell and Wade Hampton Reid, was born on October 14, 1922.

She is survived by William Adolphus Small, her husband of sixty years, and her four children, Linda Small Etheridge and husband Oliver, Margaret Di Small and husband Neal Blinken, William F. Small, II and wife JoAnn, and Jeffrey R. Small and wife Suzan.

In addition, Mrs. Small’s survivors include her sister, Marion R. Sharp, and grandchildren, Matt Bray, Kelly Bray, Reed Small, Maggie Small, Will Small, Zach Small, Hannah Small, Kathryn Godfrey, Jess Godfrey and Nancy Etheridge Sugg and husband Taylor and great granddaughter, Olivia Sugg.

Mrs. Small was a member of Newbegun United Methodist Church and served as President of the United Methodist Women for many years.

Mrs. Small was very proud of her heritage. She was a direct descendant of pioneer North Carolina settler, George Durant, and of William Reed, North Carolina colonial governor, 1722-1724. She was a member of the George Durant Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century and a past Regent of the Betsy Dowdy Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2006, at 11:00 am at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend Kirk B. Oldham officiating. The family will be at the residence at other times.

Carlton Eugene Sawyer

Mr. Carlton Eugene Sawyer, age 69, of 1048 N. 343 South, South Mills, NC died Monday, December 25, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Sawyer was born in Camden County, NC, the son of the late Herman Selden and Josie Sawyer Sawyer and was the widower of Beatrice Forbes Sawyer. He owned and operated Sawyer’s Grocery Store and was a member of Geneva Baptist Church.

Mr. Sawyer is survived by one daughter, Paulette Mitchell and husband Rob of Greensboro NC, one brother, Lem Melvin Sawyer of South Mills NC and two grandchildren.

Jiles William Hamm

Mr. Jiles William Hamm, age 80, of 134 Moonlight Drive, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Hamm, a native of Snow Hill, NC, was the son of the late Henry H. Hamm and Gertrude Grand Hamm, was the husband of Betty Jean Rose Hamm of Newport News, VA. He was a Merchant Marines Veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Army.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard R. Hamm of Nags Head, NC, and William R. Hamm of Seattle, WA; and a sister-in-law, Pearline Hamm of Tarboro, NC. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonda Lynn Hamm.
