Ronald Bernard Edmondson, age 77, of 101 Trotman Road, Shiloh, NC died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Edmondson was born in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Albert Edmondson and Irene Penman Edmondson, and was the husband of Linda Thomas Edmondson. He was retired from the US Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Office with 27 years of service and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

Besides his wife, Mr. Edmondson is survived by three sons, Ronald B. Edmondson II of Portsmouth, VA, Thomas Albert Edmondson of Shiloh, NC and Meiggs David Edmondson of Shiloh, NC; and one sister, Geinel Googoza of Tonnowonda, NY.

The Edmondson family will be receiving friends at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Henning Forbes Bartlett

Henning Forbes Bartlett, age 87, of 472 North 343, Camden, NC, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Camden County and the son of the late John Thomas ‘Dick’ Bartlett and Addie Forbes Bartlett and the husband of Doris Sample Bartlett of the residence. He was a retired Machinist Mate Chief from the U.S. Coast Guard having served in WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, a member for over 50 years of Eureka Masonic Lodge # 317 AF & AM, and the Fleet Reserve.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Henning Sample Bartlett and wife Darlene of Camden, NC; a daughter, Nancy Jennings and husband Zenas of Camden, NC; and two grandchildren, Avery Jennings and Brittany Jennings.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Holland S. Brothers

Holland Scarborough Brothers, 82, of Avon, died Sunday July 27, 2008, in her residence. Mrs. Brothers was born in Avon and was a homemaker and member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Walker Blaine and Edna Midgett Scarborough and the wife of Clayton T. Brothers, Jr.

Besides her husband surviving are two daughters, Sandrea Brothers of Renton, Washington and Verna Antonen of Avon; one son, Eric Brothers of Avon; One sister, Elsie Sawyer of Avon; Four grandchildren, Genevieve Denise Hernandez of Senleon, TX and Clayton T. Brothers IV of Houston, TX; Jessica Letitia Sherwood and James Peter Sherwood both of Renton, Washington and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brothers was preceded in death by her son, Clayton T. Brothers III.

A celebration of life will be in Saint John’s United Methodist Church on Tuesday July 29, 2008, at 2:00 pm by the Rev. Roger Dills. Burial will be in Cudworth Cemetery in Wanchese. Memorials may be made to Saint John’s United Methodist Church in Avon.

Ruth P. Forbes

Ruth Pierce Forbes, 91, of 180 Texas Road, Shiloh, NC, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Camden County, NC, the daughter of the late Howard and Jennie Forbes Pierce and was the widow of Dempsey W. Forbes. She was a member of Christ Sanctified Holy Church, Old Trap, NC.

Mrs. Forbes is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Riggs of Shiloh, NC, and Geraldine Overton and husband Wayne of Shiloh, NC; a sister, Edith Gillikin of Shiloh, NC; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lee Forbes, a son Dempsey B. Forbes, and two sisters, Elizabeth Riggs and Louie Heath. The family would like to give a special thanks to Florine and Rodney Needham for taking such good care of her.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Mustin officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. Anneliese Wacker

Anneliese Ida Starke Wacker, 76, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at her residence. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late B. Max and Ida Anna Kornemann Starke and was the widow of Charles Gottlieb Wacker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #129 ‘ Signet Chapter.

Mrs. Wacker is survived by a daughter, Anneliese Dorothea McKeown and husband Alan; a son, Charles Max Wacker and wife Cheryl; a brother, Max George Starke and wife Joan; four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Michael, George, Anneliese, and Alexander; and two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Elizabeth. She was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Julianna.

A memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27907.

Juanita White

Virginia Beach ‘ Juanita E. (Chance) White passed away at her home on Friday, July 25, 2008. She was born on August 10, 1934, in Sevierville, TN to the late Robert L. Chance and Ruth Haun Chance. Juanita lived much of her life in the Virginia Beach, VA area.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Sheri L. Fought and husband, Eric A, Fought of Clinton, TN and Sonya Y. White of Chicago, IL ;son, Richard D. White, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA. She is survived by her brothers, Bill B. Chance and wife, Vivian Chance and Robert L. Chance, Jr.; sister Rose Chambers and friends.
Through all the ups and downs, she stated ‘don’t cry for me.’ I have lived, loved, laughed and ‘had a good life.’
A grave site service will be on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA at noon. The address is 1110 North Great Neck Rd.

Leroy Tillman Abbott, 78, of Wanchese, NC died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Outer Banks Hospital. Mr. Abbott was born in Buxton, NC and was a retired Mechanic with NCDOT. He was the son of the late Calvin and Catherine Tolson Jennette and the widower of the late Myrna Loy Peele Abbott.

Mr. Abbott is survived by two daughters, Brenda Kay Miller and husband, Lonnie of Wanchese, NC, and Roberta Lewark of Grandy, NC; two sons, Tillman Ray Abbott and wife Michelle, and William Wayne Abbott and wife, Jennifer, all of Manteo, NC; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Susie Fitch-Slater and Rev. Roger Barnett officiating. Burial will be in the Cudworth Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Brenda & Lonnie Miller, 86 Jovers Lane, Wanchese.

Chris Kenneth LaPlant, 58, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at his residence. Born in Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Grant LaPlant and Viola Mckeouwn LaPlant. He retired as an accountant for International Fragrances and Flavors Inc. He worked locally at Home Depot in the paint department and was a local chess enthusiast.

Mr. LaPlant is survived by his wife Ann LaPlant of Kitty Hawk; one brother, Grant Allen LaPlant of Marlboro, MA; a sister, Carolyn Towell of Surprise, AZ.

Robert “Bobby” Barnett

Robert ‘Bobby’ Rayle Barnett, 49, of Chesapeake, VA passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008 in a Suffolk, VA nursing home, after a 3 year battle with cancer. Mr. Barnett was born in Manteo, NC and was a Maryland Pilot Boat Captain. He was the son of the late Bennie and Beatrice Peele Barnett and was also preceded in death by a sister, Maria Rood. He loved to cook and fish and spend time on the beach at Hatteras Island.

Mr. Barnett is survived by two daughters, Whitney Barnett and Cassidy Barnett, both of Chesapeake; a sister, Wendy Adams of Manns Harbor, NC; two brothers, Benjie Barnett of Delaware and Nacie Barnett of Windsor, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Heritage of Faith Family Church, Frisco, on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the Barnett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to RBC Bank, P.O. Box 176, Buxton, NC 27920 payable to Whitney Barnett to assist with funeral expenses.

Robert D. Ward

Robert D. Ward, 77 of 147 Seymour Drive, Camden, NC passed on to his Heavenly Home on Monday, July 21, 2008 in the Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Homestead, Florida to the late Ohmer L. Ward and Doris M. Ward and pre-deceased by his brother Dewey L. Ward. He retired from the US Coast Guard in 1974 after twenty-three years of honorable service. He was an active member of Widow’s Son Lodge #75, AF & AM, Camden, NC; Hall Lodge # 53, AF & AM, Shawboro, NC, Scottish Rite Bodies and Sudan Shrine Temple, New Bern, NC; and Indian Ridge Chapter #319, Order of the Eastern Star, Shawboro, NC. His church affiliation was Methodist.

Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of almost fifty-four years, Hilda Ward; two sons, Glenn Ward and his wife Irene, and Keith Ward; a grandson, Eric; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Camden United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Moehring officiating, and Masonic Rites being performed at the conclusion of the service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service and at other times at the residence.
