Melvin Bert ‘B’ White, 76, of 210 Cartwright Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. White, a native of Pasquotank County, was the son of the late Sam O. White and Bertie Keaton White. He operated a concession stand for thirty years for the NC Department of Transportation. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, the Business Enterprise for the Blind, the American Council for the blind, and the River City Lion’s Club.

Mr. White is survived by a sister, Lillian Sanders of Elizabeth City, NC; and seven nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Katherine Ellis and Alice Louise Armstrong and a brother Sam White.

A funeral service will be Monday, March 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Northside Chapel with the Rev. Leon Overman officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, immediately after the service in the lobby of the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of the sister, Lillian Sanders, 1725 County Street, Elizabeth City, NC. Marjorie Bleich, 89, of 100 A Danielle Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Winslow Memorial Nursing Home.

Marge was born February 7, 1920 in New York City and was the daughter of Charles and Florence (Vercasio) Miller. She was married to the late Alfred J Bleich, of Maryland, NY and was predeceased by her oldest son, Alfred C. Bleich.

She was an avid collector of teddy bears and very active in community organizations such as the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Arthur and Peggy Bleich, grandchildren Alfred, Sarah, and Erik, as well as her great-grandson Colin Alfred Bleich.

Mrs. Isabell Forbes Kight, 87, of 118 Texas Road, Shiloh, NC died Thursday at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Kight, a native of Camden County, was the daughter of the late Jonathan Parker Forbes and Mary Elizabeth Riggs Forbes and the wife of Gideon ‘Gid’ Kight of the residence. She was a homemaker, a Christian, and a charter member of Order of Easter Star Indian Ridge #319.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Toni Reel of Shiloh, NC; two sons, Ronald Kight and Charles Kight both of Shiloh, NC; three sisters, Dorothy Forbes of Statesville, NC, Nellie Forbes and Martha Vaughn both of Perry, GA; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild Izabella Claire Nash named in honor of her; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved so much.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roland Cooper and the Rev. Steve Gallop officiating. Mrs. Grace White Scott, 91, of 919 Selby Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, February 27, 2009 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. Mrs. Scott, a native of Pasquotank County, was the daughter of the late Herman E. White and Sallie Sanders White and the wife of James Selby Scott of the residence. She was a homemaker and a member of The First Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Ann S. Cartwright and husband James L. of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandsons, Scott Cartwright and wife Holly of Elizabeth City, NC, and Ashley Cartwright and wife Cassie of Camden, NC; four great grandchildren, Tylor Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Haley Cartwright, and Laney Cartwright; and a niece Mary Bruton. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Edrie Virginia Scott and a sister, Marian W. Nixon.

We remember you in this solemn hour, our dear Mom, when your tender love watched over us like a guardian angel. You have gone from us, to be with our Heavenly Father and your beloved husband Bill, but the bond, which unites our souls can never be severed. The image of you will live within our hearts always. Your heavenly reward has come because of love, faithfulness and the caring and kindness you always exhibited to others.

Born in Norfolk, VA and raised in Avon, NC, Lucille graduated from Avon High School in 1941. Soon after, she married William Mol with whom she celebrated over sixty-five years of marriage. Together they raised five children, spending much of their lives in Mystic, Connecticut. He predeceased her just one year
ago.

She leaves five children and their spouses: Bill Mol & Paige, James Mol & Nancy, Charlotte Neal & Barry, Glenda Dexter & Tom, Patti Roma & David. She will be missed by her grandchildren, as well. They are William Mol III, James Mol Jr., Gretchen Mol Williams, Gregory & Joshua Neal, Katie Dexter, Heather & Nicholas Roma. Her great grandchildren are William Mol IV, Parker Mol, Savannah Neal and Ptolemy Williams. Lucille is also survived by her siblings, Norma Richardson, Billy Gray and Marjorie Martin, as well as her extended family and many friends.
A member of the Order of The Eastern Star,Fidelity Chapter #54, she was also a ‘Gray Lady’ volunteer at the USCG Academy Hospital. She later owned and operated The Victorian Vanity fine lingerie boutique in Mystic, CT.

Lucille and Bill retired to the Outer Banks, the area in which they began their journey together. They lived there for nearly 30 years.

In celebration of her life, a service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, 7 March at St. John United Methodist Church in Avon, NC where she sang in the choir in her youth. Burial will be at the Gray family cemetery in Buxton following the service. Myrtle “Aileen” Wescott

Myrtle ‘Aileen’ Johnson Wescott, 88 years of age, of Wanchese, NC, was called to her Heavenly Home on February 25, 2009, surrounded by her loved ones. Aileen was born in the Panola community of Panola County, TX, the youngest daughter of the late Charlie D. and Elender B. Johnson, who were ranchers. During WWII, she met and married Charles L. Wescott of Wanchese, NC, a sailor stationed in Galveston, TX, and of this marriage, were blessed with four children.

Aileen is survived by Charles L. Wescott, her devoted husband of 64 years. She is also survived by daughter, Mary Wescott Kee and son-in-law, Lloyd Kee of Henderson, TX; grandson, Lee Johnson and wife, Lisa of Wanchese, NC; granddaughter, Anna Outenreath of Plano, TX; grandson, Justin McKinney of Athens, TX; great-granddaughter, Mariah Outenreath of Plano, TX; Alyssa Johnson and Ian Johnson of Wanchese, NC. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lessie Forbes of Wanchese, NC and Sandra Payne and husband, Kenneth of Wanchese, NC; nephews, Irving Forbes of Wanchese, NC, Carey Murphy of Kingwood, TX, Charles Robinson of Houston, TX, Rodney Robinson of Houston, TX, Timothy Payne of Creswell, NC; nieces, Glynda Williams of Henderson, TX, Wanda Krumpelbeck of Bossier City, LA, and Devorah Richardson of New Summerfield, TX.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, an infant daughter and son; a daughter Myrtle Gail Wescott McKinney of Wanchese, NC; granddaughter, Tana D. Johnson of Henderson, TX; her sisters, Lessie Roberts of Carthage, TX, Mildred Murphy of Houston, TX, and Nandine Robinson of Houston, TX.

Her childhood and early marriage years of residence were in Texas and Louisiana. After WWII, she and Charles moved to Wanchese, NC, where they built their first home. During the 1960′s they moved to the Richmond, VA area, but in 1967, returned to Wanchese, the place she called home. Like a pair of dove, Aileen and Charles enjoyed many hours together on their front porch in Bible study and prayer, as well as marveling over the beauty of God’s Handiwork, enjoying the migratory birds and waterfowl that graced their lawn, and looking across the marsh watching the boats travel up and down Broad Creek.

At an early age, she committed her life to Christ and her gentle spirit radiated into the teaching of ‘her Little Girl’s Sunday School Classes’, encompassing a period of over 60 years combined teaching in Wanchese and Richmond. She was a respected and prayerful pillar of support within the Wanchese Assembly of God Church organization. She was a member and president of the Dare County Chapter of Women’s Aglow and for several years, participated in the Gideon’s jail/prison ministry until her health prevented. ‘Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies.’ Proverbs 30:10.’ Aileen compassionately touched the lives of many with her love of The Lord, leaving a legacy of Christian servitude to many throughout Texas, Eastern North Carolina, and Virginia. Upon graduation from Longstreet High School in Longstreet, LA, she began a life-long work era that finalized with her employment at the Dare County Farm Agent/Home Extension Office, which was a job she dearly enjoyed.

Twiford Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh St., Manteo, NC is in charge of arrangements, where family will visit with friends on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 6:30 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Wanchese Assembly of God Church, Wanchese, NC, with Bro. Kenny Midgett officiating and Rev. Elmo Daniels assisting. Pallbearers will be Sam Dough, Willie Etheridge, III, Irving Forbes, Elisha Meekins, Eric Meekins and Charles Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers will be Boyd Basnight, Bobby L. Daniels, Dixie Daniels, Rabindra Maharaj, Benny O’Neal, Keith Thompson, and Omie Tillett.

Burial will be conducted at a later date in the Deadwood Cemetery, Deadwood, TX, with Hawthorn Funeral Home of Carthage, TX in charge of arrangements. Thomas Edward Kingsley, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009.’He was’born to the late Loretta Sullivan Kingsley and the late Thomas Edward Kingsley in Brooklyn, NY on September 20, 1923.’ He met the love of his life, Rosemary Donovan, whom he married after the war.’ He was a veteran having’served in the U.S. Army in World War II.’Upon his return from Europe he continued his studies at Manhattan College’from which he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science.’ Tom and Rosemary moved to Long Island where they raised their three children.’ Tom’s career as a salesman’was a natural for a man who enjoyed all people and never forgot a name.’ In 1988 Tom and Rosemary retired to Southern Shores where he’was an’avid reader, enjoyed golf, their sailboat and the beauty of the area.’ After Rosemary’s death he became very active in Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, NC.’ He was a leader in fund raising efforts to rebuild the church, among other involvements.’

He will be missed greatly by his children who loved him,’Thomas Kingsley and wife Bernadette, Mark Kingsley’and Denise K. and’husband’Will Graham; grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Caitlin and Megan; sister in-law and brother in-law, Betty and Roy; and nieces, nephews and friends.’

A viewing will be held at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 26 by the’Rev. Dr. William F. Walsh, OSFS. Burial will immediately follow the mass at the Southern Shores Cemetery where he will join Rosemary.

Gladys Meads Markham, 91, of 465 Meadstown Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Elizabeth City, NC. Mrs. Markham was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Thomas J. Meads and Bessie Pendleton Meads and was the widow of James Winston Markham. She was a retired seamstress from 17 South Garment and a member of Symons Creek Tabernacle Church.

Mrs. Markham is survived by one daughter, Faye Dinger and special friend, Billy Bray, of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Wayne Markham and wife, Pauline, of Hertford, NC and James Markham and wife, Sue, of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister, Gaynelle Meads of Elizabeth City, NC; one brother, Marshall Meads of Elizabeth City, NC; four grandchildren, Bryan Markham, Courtney Baccus, April Cooke and Winston Dinger; and four great grandchildren, Rachel Dinger, Gage Dinger, Morgan Baccus and Aaron Cooke. She was predeceased by a sister, Naomi Williams, four brothers Ralph, George, Everett and Thomas (Red) Meads.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 27, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with the Revs. William Rembert and Bill Mayo officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. Va. Beach- Jerry Eugene Moseley, 70, past away February 23rd 2009. He was born in Drakesboro, KY to the late Lymon Rager and Gaynell Childres. He is predeceased by his stepfather Ray Moseley. He served in the Navy for 22 years and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement from the Navy, he retired from the Civil Service serving at Oceana PSP.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pamela Moseley of 40 years, son, Mickey Moseley and Fianc Amber Fain, daughter Melissa Moseley, all of Virginia Beach, sisters, Gayla Page and husband Martin of Florida, Karen Bruce and husband James of Kentucky, Faye Bitter and husband Larry of Indiana, Jean Bullock and husband Donald of Indiana, Sherry TerMarsah and husband Dave of Florida, as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ola Mae Ambrose Burns, 87 of Moyock, NC died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Sentara Nursing Home, Barco, NC. Ms. Burns was a native of Roper, NC.

Ms. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Burns and her son, James T. Burns. She is survived by her son, Larry W. Burns and wife Barbara of Moyock, NC; one daughter Ola Mae ‘Junie’ Barnett and husband Harold of Chesapeake, VA. Also surviving are two sisters, Grace Styons of Grandy, NC; Louise Boyles of Portsmouth, VA; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
