BRENDA TRUEBLOOD YOUNG, 53, of 123 Tiff Lane in Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Pasquotank County, daughter of the late Raymond and Sally T. Trueblood and was the wife of Richard Young. She was a member of the Rock Church.
Besides her husband she is survived by two sisters, Lessie T. White of Elizabeth City, NC, and Audrey T. Whittsell of Virginia Beach, VA, and two brothers, Avery Trueblood of Tulsa, OK, and Roger Trueblood of Elizabeth City, NC. She was preceded in death by a brother Archie Ray Trueblood.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday March 30, 2009, at 2:00PM in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Rev. F. Joe Griffith. Adolfo E. Tovar
Virginia Beach ‘ Adolfo ‘Eddie’ Eduardo Tovar, 27 died March 27, 2009. Eddie was born in Colombia to Adolfo E. and Maria Duque Tovar. He was an EM2 in the US Navy and assigned to the USS Gunston Hall. His passion was working on cars, both the classic cars and the street racers. He also enjoyed fishing from time to time.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of six years, Crystal R. Tovar; his parents, Adolfo and Maria Tovar of Colombia; daughter, Elizabeth Raye Ramirez of Virginia Beach; son, Luis Eduardo Tovar of Virginia Beach; sister Maria Cristina Tovar of Colombia and brother, Jorge Ivan Tovar of Denver, CO.

Alva Gene Kuhn, 85, of Point Harbor, NC, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009. A World War II Veteran, Gene served his country in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS White Plains saying he ‘had been everywhere from Iwo Jima to Leyte Gulf.’ Gene recently received and proudly wore his World War II Victory Medal.
Gene loved all sports, but being a Hoosier, he especially loved college basketball and auto racing. Gene was a member of Jarvisburg Church of Christ where he and his wife worshiped for fifteen years. Gene spent many hours on the tractor preparing the grounds for Sunday service. Gene was a dedicated and adoring husband, caring father, and loving and supportive grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret Kuhn, of Point Harbor, NC; a son, Michael Kuhn and his wife, Diane, of Collierville, TN; a daughter, Joan Wood and her husband, Donnie, of Virginia Beach, VA; and a son who preceded him in death, Lonnie Kuhn, and his wife Carol, of Hertford, NC. Gene has a grandson, Stephen Kuhn of Memphis, TN; three granddaughters, Lori Wright of Fayetteville, NC, Emily Walsh of Virginia Beach, VA, and Lindsay Kuhn of Collierville, TN; two great granddaughters; and four great grandsons.
The family would like to thank staff and friends at Sentara Hospice for their attention and care over the last three weeks. Their support has been a blessing to the family.
The family will receive friends at Jarvisburg Church of Christ from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm at Jarvisburg Church of Christ with Dennis Crehan officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Gardens. James Alvin ‘Jimmy’ Weeks, 68, of 403 Troy Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC the son of the late James Edward and Wilma Sample Weeks, and was the husband of Mrs. Jennette Tisdale Weeks of the residence. Mr. Weeks had worked as sales representative for the North Carolina Education Lottery. He was a volunteer worker for the rescue squad and also helped to organize special education programs. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Weeks is survived by his daughters, Susan Weeks of Edenton, NC, Sarah Hewitt of South Mills, NC, Jaye Hughes of Bethel, NC, and Brenda Rodgers of Elizabeth City, NC; his son, Dean Hudson of Elizabeth City, NC; his aunt, Bernice Long; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, NC with Rev. Mike Mizelle and Rev. A.C. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home, and at all other times at Mr. Weeks’ residence. Richard Donald “Don” Perry

Richard Donald ‘Don’ Perry, 79, of Manteo, NC died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Norfolk, VA. Born in Centerville, MA, he was the son of the late Raymond Chester and Evetta Belle Malo Perry and was the widower of Audrey Humble Perry. Mr. Perry was retired from Bell South Telephone Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War. He was a former Volunteer of the Year for the National Wildlife Federation and a Golden Eagle member of the NRA.
Mr. Perry is survived by a daughter, Donna Tamburo and husband Steve of Guntersville, AL; a grandson, Jeremy Patrick Tamburo of Huntsville, AL; a sister, Marilyn Roth of Rio Rancho, NM; and a brother, Raymond Alvin Perry of Cotuit, MA. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Angus Perry.

Theodore George Springfield

Theodore George ‘Pop’ Springfield, died peacefully on March 24, 2009, surrounded by his family and friends. He celebrated his 89th birthday on March 13, 2009. He was born in 1920 in Evansville, IN and lived most of his life in Newport News, VA. He lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyne and Dan Ottavio in Southern Shores for his remaining years.
He served in the Armed Forces during WWII and while stationed in Paris, France met his wife, Jeanne Marie Lalo Springfield. He retired after 30 years as Command Sergeant Major and received many military honors. After retiring, he worked at Brooks Transfer and Storage in Hampton. He enjoyed landscaping, giving gifts of framed puzzles, spending time with his family and friends and attending his church, Duck United Methodist. His outgoing personality, gentle manner, and kind heart earned him the affectionate title ‘Pop’ by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Amelia and Clyde Springfield, a brother, Raymond, and his wife, Jeanne Marie Springfield.
He leaves behind two sisters, Hyacinth Hagensieker and Violet Short, both of Evansville, IN. He was a loving father to Mike Springfield of Spain and his wife, Connie, Teddy Springfield of California and his wife, Peggy, Jonny Springfield of Kitty Hawk and his wife, Barbara, and Evelyne Ottavio of Southern Shores and her husband, Daniel.
He will be missed by his four grandchildren, Matthew Ottavio, Andrew Ottavio, Lauren Springfield, and John Springfield. His joyful spirit and gracious presence will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Duck United Methodist Church on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the service. A graveside committal with military honors will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Duck United Methodist Church, POB 8010, Duck, NC 27949.

Richard L. ‘Dickie’ Boyce, 67, of 700 Anderson Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Boyce was born on November 23, 1941 in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Clarence Boyce and Virginia King Boyce. He was the husband of Hattie McPherson Boyce.
He was a retired machinist foreman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and he owned and operated Boyce’s Tree Service. Mr. Boyce was a member of the 4-Mile Desert Hunt Club, Cherry Glade Hunt Club, and Albemarle Houndsman Association. He was an avid fisherman.
Besides his wife, Mr. Boyce is survived by two daughters, Donna Lilly and husband Brian and Debbie Boyce all of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, Richard Boyce, Jr. and wife Jenny of Hertford, NC; nine grandchildren, B.J. Lilly, Ben Lilly, Tiffany Cobb, Terrie Cobb, Justin Boyce, Jessica Boyce, Courtney Boyce, Dustin Boyce and Lanie Boyce; one great grandson, Cheyne Lilly.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00 am at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with Roger Edwards officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Norfolk- George Percy Treynor, 85, died March 22, 2009. He was born in Norfolk to the late George and Addie Dozier Treynor. Mr. Treynor graduated from Maury High School, served in the US. Army in New Guinea during WWII, attended Old Dominion University and had worked as a civil engineer. He was a member of the Hampton Roads Christadelphian Ecclesia and a former member of the Norfolk Lions Club. Mr. Treynor was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma Johnson Treynor; second wife, Julia Goehring Treynor; sisters, Kathryn Warrington and Anna Mary Baughan; and daughter, Jean Treynor Sharp.
Left to cherish is memory are children, G. Samuel Treynor and Mary Susan Treynor; sister, Martha Miller Shaw; brother, William Treynor; 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Belinda ‘Lindy’ Farrow, 93, originally of 57144 Kohler Rd., Hatteras, NC passed away peacefully at Britthaven Nursing Home, Nags Head, on Thursday, March 19, 2009, in the company of her family. She was a lifelong member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hatteras Island Chapter # 303. She enjoyed fishing and her family.
She was the daughter of the late Freeman and Lucy Stowe. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Farrow, her brother Freeman Stowe, and sisters, Manerva Tolson and Lucy Stowe.
She leaves behind a sister, Kathleen Styron; three daughters, Alona Carter, Dee Woolard, Carol Sue and husband, Mark McCracken; six grandchildren, Seth Carter, Gail and husband, Jack Spence, Wendy and husband, Billy Sawyer, Gene Woolard, George and wife, Michelle Farrow, Markie McCracken and partner, Sylvia Mattingly; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. Cory Oliver and Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park, Elizabeth City, at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Robert L. Paxson
Robert L. Paxson, 68, of 110 Seahawk Court, Grandy, NC died Friday, March 19, 2009 at Albemarle Hospital. He was the son of the late Joseph Paxson and Ruth Tindall Paxson. He was born and raised in Jay County, Indiana, where he worked as a farmer, drove a truck, ran for sheriff and was a pilot. Moving to North Carolina he worked as a fisherman and then received his heating and air conditioning license and operated his own business. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion for forty-two years.
Mr. Paxson is survived by a daughter, Andrea Paxson Brown and husband Larry of Grandy, NC, and a son, Christopher Lynn Paxson and wife Ann of Woodbridge, VA; a brother, Thomas Paxson of IN; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Monday, March 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Poplar Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Midgett officiating.
