Arleen Owens Pugh, 55, of 155 Harbinger Ridge Road, Harbinger, NC died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at her residence.  Born in Pasquotank County, NC, she was the daughter of Marious P. and Rena Bridgeman Owens of Harbinger, NC and was the wife of the late William Russell Pugh.  She had worked as a sales associate at Walmart and was a member of Powell’s Point Christian Church.

Mrs. Pugh is survived by her daughter, Amanda Marie Pugh of Harbinger, NC; sisters, Miranda Perry of Colington, NC, Bonnie Speight and husband Dennis, Sue Owens and husband Reggie and Donna Vance and husband Fred, all of Harbinger, NC; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Kyle and Hallee Vance, Walter and Alisa Perry, Leah Speight, Ashley Trude, and Amber and Tori Owens; and two great nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind a very special friend, Devon Sawyer.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, William David Rue.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Powell’s Point Christian Church with Chaplain Walter Gallop officiating.  The family will receive friends at the residence.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 404 Jessup Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. George Cepavicius

George Cepavicius

George Cepavicius, 80, of 504 Timothy Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his residence.  Born in Lanark, Scotland, he was the son of the late George Joseph Cepavicius and the late Sybella Senkaitis. Mr. Cepavicius was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl Miller, a sister Rosemary Boucher and his brother, Joseph Cepavicius. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran and was employed as tool and die maker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and spent his life taking care of others.  We love you and will never forget you.

Mr. Cepavicius is survived by his daughter, Ona Mensing, of Edenton, NC; two sons, George Joseph Cepavicius and wife Edith, of Tyner, NC; Kirk James Cepavicius and wife Kimberly of Elizabeth City, NC; a sister Sandra Rochowanski of Oregon, a brother, Anthony Cepavicius of Laguna Niguel, CA; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. 

A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel. Military Honors will be provided by William Clarence Jackson Post 6060 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lula Foreman

Ms. Lula Kenyon Foreman, 88, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011.  Born in Norfolk, VA, she was a former resident of Currituck County and the daughter of the late Clyde Elbert Foreman and the late Mary Kenyon Swain Snowden. Ms. Foreman was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Frances Trimyer.

Ms. Foreman is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Ms. Foreman will be conducted on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Snowden Maple Cemetery with Rev. Charles Pritchard

Charles Michael Pritchard, 56 of the two hundred block of Thalia Trace Drive, Virginia Beach, VA died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Virginia Beach General Hospital.  Mr. Pritchard, born in Norfolk, VA was the son of the late Charles Vivian Pritchard and Sylvia Leota Hartsock Pritchard and grandson of the late George L. Pritchard and Beulah Perry Pritchard.  He was a graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College and a Librarian Assistant at Bayside Library.

 He is survived by a sister, Suzanne Pritchard Kennedy and her husband James of Norfolk, VA; and many loving family members and friends.

Patricia White

Patricia Ann White, 49 of 528 Crooked Run Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Albemarle Hospital. A native of Pasquotank County, she was the daughter of Earl Grover White, Sr., and Audrey Marie Dail White of Elizabeth City, NC.  She was a U.S. Army Veteran and was employed at the Elizabeth City Coast Guard Base.

 Besides her parents she is survived by two sisters, Pam White of Elizabeth City, NC and Earline Dwarkanath of Great Bridge, VA; and one brother, Earl “Buddy” White, Jr., and wife Bobbie of South Mills, NC; and a special friend Janet Scott.

 Funeral services will be Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Cynthia “Cindy” Berry Lowry, 47, of 1566 Soundneck Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at her residence. Lifetime resident of Pasquotank County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Young Berry, Jr. and the late Jean Layden Berry and was the wife of Kent Lowry. Ms. Lowry was employed by CVS pharmacy. She was an active member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.

Besides her husband, Ms. Lowry is survived by her daughter, Ashton Lowry, and her son, Cade Lowry, all of Elizabeth City, NC.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Corey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Chandler R. Olsen, a native of Hamilton, MT, has been with the firm since early 2011. He is a graduate of Hamilton High School in 2001, Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2009. Chandler later graduated with honors from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he earned his Bachelor of Mortuary Science degree and was awarded the A.J. Russler Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Art of Embalming. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, fishing, playing banjo, and making stained glass.

Edgar Young Berry, Jr., 87, of 1566 Soundneck Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, February 25, 2011 at Carolina House, Elizabeth City. Born in Perquimans County, NC, he was the son of the late Edgar Young Berry, Sr. and the late Mattie Howell Berry and was the husband of the late Jean Layden Berry. Mr. Berry was a veteran of U.S. Army. He was retired from Daily Advance as a circulation manager, and was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ and attended Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Berry is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lowry and husband Kent of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Dan Berry of Hertford, NC; and two grandchildren, Ashton and Cade Lowry.

Private graveside services were conducted Monday, February 28, 2011 at New Hollywood Cemetery. James Scott

James Eldon “Jim” Scott, 55, of 467 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC died at his residence on Wednesday, February 23, 2011.  He was born in Belleville, IL. on October 18, 1955.  He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Diesel Shop Zone Manager.  Mr. Scott served in U S Army and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Carter Scott of the home, his father, James Franklin Scott and his wife, Linda, of Nags Head, NC and his mother, Miriam Pritchard Sanders of Elizabeth City, NC.  Also surviving are, one daughter, Brianna Louise Scott of Hertford, NC, two sons, James Lee “Jim” Scott and wife, Ashley, of Elizabeth City, NC and John Eldon Scott of Hertford, NC; two sisters, Debra Scott Zelt and husband, Deiter of Ohio and Elinda Scott Brooks and husband, David, of Sanford, NC; one brother, Clifford Lee Scott of Cary, NC.  Other survivors include a niece, Laura Brooks of Sanford, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry Gibbs and wife, Connie of Camden, NC, John “Danny” Carter and wife, Lisa, of Elizabeth City, NC; nephews and their families, Josh Gibbs and wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Emma of Camden, NC, Jerry Michael Gibbs of Nags Head, NC and Jason Gibbs and wife, Kim and their son, Carson of Elizabeth City, NC

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 28, 2011, at 2:00pm in Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church St., Elizabeth City by Pastor David Brooks.  Entombment will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive family and friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30pm at the funeral home and at other times at their residence, 467 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC.  Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Wallace L. Beckham, 84, died February 22, 2011 at his home in Avon, NC.  He was born August 13, 1926 in Winnsboro, SC.  He was the son of Wallace D. Beckham and Florence Hennessee Beckham. He loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII.  He was a Master Plumber, Real Estate Broker, Pilot and served in the U.S. National Guard and Civil Air Patrol.  He was also the former owner of Outer Banks Beaches Realty.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Ann Seitz Beckham, he is survived by two daughters, Pat Costa and husband, Rich of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Sandra Quidley and husband, Maurice (Reese) Quidley of South Mills, NC; two sons Daniel and Brian Beckham of Avon, NC; two sisters, Betty Geiger and husband, Herbert of Sandy Run, SC, and Margie Coleman and husband, Pete of Winnsboro, SC; two brothers, Howard Beckham and wife, Bobby Jean of Winnsboro, SC, and Connie Parker and wife, Penny of Jacksonville, FL; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Ewing Cemetery Chapel, Ewing, NJ on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 12:00 noon.  Burial will be in the Ewing Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to U.S. Navy Armed Guard WWII Veterans, 115 Wall Creek Dr., Rolesville, NC 27571, or to Dare County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 2477, Manteo, NC 27954.
