Joshua Leigh Livesay
Captain Joshua Leigh Livesay, 34, of Wanchese, died Saturday, April 30, 2011. Born in Elizabeth City, NC, April 6, 1977, he was the son of Ron “Bubba” and Donetta Livesay of Wanchese. He is survived by his daughter Ava Livesay, her mother Allison, and his brother, Caine Livesay. He is also survived by his grandparents Lois Webb, Irene Livesay, and great-grandmother, Stella Blackburn. Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald Webb and Edward Livesay.
Captain Livesay was a self-employed waterman. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Manteo.
Memorial services are planned for Monday, May 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. on the beach at Jennette’s Pier. Parking will be available. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be directd to a fund in the name of his daughter, Ava Mason Livesay, at any branch of RBC-USA Bank. They are receiving friends at their home, 146 Tillett Road, Wanchese.

Faye Chamberlin
Faye Ellen Chamberlin (nee McCurry) 73, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Colony Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nags Head. Born in Erwin, Tennessee, she was the daugther of the late Ernest McCurry and the late Pearl McCurry (nee Fender). She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Warren George Chamberlin of Manteo. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by one brother, Arthur McCurry.
Mrs. Chamberlin graduated Unicoi High School, attended Steed Tech Business School, and then went to work at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. From there, she was employed at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia, until her retirement to the Outer Banks where she enjoyed spending time with family and volunteering at Hotline Thrift Stores.
In addition to her husband, Faye is survived by her three sons, Brian G. Chamberlin and wife Louann of Canton, Ohio, Richard Alan Chamberlin and wife Erin of Bristow, Virginia, and Earl William Chamberlin and wife Erica of Richmond, Virginia. Also, left to cherish her memory are her five grandchildren, Warren, Russell, Victoria, Madison, and Reagan Chamberlin, and one great-grandchild, Landon Chamberlin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in honor of Mrs. Faye Ellen Chamberlin, to the American Cancer Society by visiting their website, www.cancer.org. Please note that all donations be directed towards Glioblastoma Research in memory of Mrs. Chamberlin.

Frank DeLayo
Frank Louis DeLayo, 80, of Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony DeLayo and Cecelia Mario DeLayo. Mr. DeLayo was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later retired from the City of Philadelphia as an automotive electrician. Mr. DeLayo was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors included his brother, Anthony DeLayo and wife Maryann of Broomall, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. DeLayo was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Tantillo and brother, Salvatore Deleo.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date in Conshohocken, PA. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Lillie Curles
Lillie Mae Hassell Curles, 89, of 805 W. Elizabeth Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 in Manteo, NC. Born in Washington County, NC she was the daughter of the late Stephen Arthur “Pete” Hassell and Sarah Frances Hufton Hassell and was the wife of the late Woodrow Wilson Curles. Mrs. Curles was an antiques dealer and a member of Olivet Lakes Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include daughters, Clara Davis of Elizabeth City, NC and Frances Davis and husband George of Manteo, NC; a son, Gordon Curles and wife Frances Ann of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers, Luther Hassell and Linwood Hassell, both of Elizabeth City, NC; eleven grandchildren; thrity-five great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Curles was preceded in death by her daughter, Neva Moffett Sawyer; sister, Ada Dail; and a brother, Raymond Hassell.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ray Archer and the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and immediately following the service Sunday in the lobby of the funeral home. Joseph “Joe” Vaughan
Joseph “Joe” James Vaughan, 62 of 1607 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Brian Center in Hertford, NC. Born in Pasquotank County, he was the son of the late James Julius Vaughan and Mary Stafford Vaughan. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War and a carpenter.
He is survived by a daughter, Tiffany Vaughan Mackie; a sister, Julia Christine Moore and husband Ricky of Okeechobee, FL; three brothers, Eric Bryan Vaughan and wife June of Stuart, FL, Phillip Vaughan and wife Marsha and Brett Vaughan all of Elizabeth City, NC; three nieces, Jennifer Nance, Jessica Vaughan and Jennifer Anderson; four nephews, Robert Hull, James Hull, Brett Vaughan, Jr., and Brian Vaughan; one great nephew, Brian Ashley. He was pre-deceased by a nephew, David Hull.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with military honors rendered by William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060. Linda Barbee
Linda Joyce Wise Barbee, age 68, died Thursday, April 28 at her home in Stumpy Point surrounded by her family and friends.
As the owner of Village Doll Works she spent many years teaching classes on porcelain doll making. A lifelong Methodist, she was most recently a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo, NC, where she sang in the choir. She remained an active member of the United Methodist Women at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Stumpy Point. She was a proud democrat and member and former president of The Southern Albemarle Association.
She was born in Norfolk, VA, on October 20, 1942 to Alva and Leland Wise, deceased. She is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Lcdr. USN Ret. Benjamine D. Barbee. Surviving daughters are Julie Barbee Wescott and her husband, Anthony Wescott of Mount Pleasant, SC, Deanna Barbee Chabay and her husband, Edward Chabay of Washington, DC; and four cherished grandchildren, Justin and Ben Wescott and Amanda and Elizabeth Chabay. Surviving siblings are Robert Wise of Swan Quarter and Alice Wise of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Monday, May 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo on Tuesday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Cribb officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Betty Spence
On Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 371 Ivy Neck Road, Camden, NC surrounded by her children, family members and friends Betty Baker Gallop Spence was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Betty Baker Gallop Spence is the daughter of the late Mary E. Baker Collins and Walter Henry Lathan. She was the widow of Ransom Spence. She was also preceded in death by her son Collis Alvin Gallop Jr., her eldest grandchild Betty Yvette Gallop and her stepfather Laten Collins.
Betty was born on October 1, 1933 in Manteo, NC. She was educated at Manteo Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA.
Betty was raised to have a strong work ethic. She worked as a cook at various restaurants while living in Manteo. She relocated to Elizabeth City after being hired as a federal employee with the United States Coast Guard. She retired from the former Aircraft Repair and Supply Center as a GS-11 Inventory Management Specialist on March 1, 1996.
Remembering the gentleness of Betty Baker Gallop Spence are three sons: Walter Baker and wife Mary of Watertown, CT, Laten “L.D” Gallop of Manteo, NC and Resinold “Peaches” Spence of Camden, NC; three daughters: Melissa Liverman and husband Allen of Spanaway, WA, M. Alena Gallop of Waterbury, CT and Cordelia “Pat” Harris of Camden, NC; eleven grandchildren: Alvin Gallop, James Harris, Lee Meekins and Joshua Alvin Meekins of Manteo, NC, Steven Liverman of Puyallup, WA, Mia Liverman Hatckett and husband Darryl of Goldsboro, NC, Andrew Ellingham and Khali Gallop of New Jersey, Troy Jones and Kevin Jones of Elizabeth City, NC; Lineaka Spence of Camden, NC; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Bessie Lindo of Jarvisburg, NC and Ernestine Frances of New York; sister-like cousin Louise Spencer of Manteo, NC; brother-like cousin Percy Daniels of Camden, NC; godchildren Harris and Janice Burton.
Services for Mrs. Spence will be held Sunday May 1, 2011 at Haven Creek Missionary Baptist at 3:00PM, with Rev. Ray Hill officiating and Rev. Oscar E. Butts delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at the Haven Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and at other times at her home in Camden and at the family residence in Manteo.

Lula Credle
Lula Jane Claiborne Credle, 82, of 322 Highway 34 North, Camden, NC passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Born in Mecklenburg County, VA, she was the daughter of the late George Weston Claiborne and Rowena Jeffress Claiborne and was the wife of the late Staten Allen Credle, Jr. Mrs. Credle was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
Mrs. Credle is survived by her daughters, Georgie C. Cooper and husband Melvin of Hertford, NC, Beverly Caroon and husband Gregory of the home in Camden, NC, and Lisa Floyd and husband “BR” of Aydlett, NC; son, David Credle and wife Jeannie of Maple, NC; sisters, Doris Ryland of South Hill, VA, Rawlins McCauley of South Hill, VA, and Georgie Rudd of Bracey, VA; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery in South Hill, VA with Rev. A. C. Wells officiating. Wanda Sellman
Wanda Kay Kellihan Sellman, 58, of 114 Midway Drive, Grandy, NC died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Sentara Barco Nursing Home following a long battle with congestive heart failure. Born in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of Francis Marion Kellihan of Grandy, NC and the late Mabel Nobles Kellihan.
Ms. Sellman is survived by her children, Jennifer Lynn Cook of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Scott William Sellman and wife Marcy of South Sioux City, NE; their father, Jan William Sellman; a brother, Harold William Kellihan of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters, Christine Bailey of Chesapeake, VA, Joanne Kellas of Virginia Beach, VA and Paula Kellihan of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jacey Lynn Cook, Dylan Michael Cook, Marcus Langseth and Kylee Langseth; many nieces and nepews; one great-niece and one great-nephew. In addition to her mother, she joins her brother, James Marion Kellihan, in Heaven.

Cecelia Telego
Southern Shores, NC
Cecelia Gibalski Telego, 94, passed away at the Outer Banks Hospital on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francis Gibalski and Helen Gibalski (nee Rejowski). In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Alfreda Otto, Viola Mroz, and her brothers, Zigmund Gibalski and Henry Gibalski.
Ms. Telego enjoyed reading and loved the family animals who all adored her. She was very involved with the Red Hat Society’s Outer Banks Chapter, the “Southern Rubies.” Another thing that brought enjoyment to her was watching sports on TV, especially her beloved Buffalo Bills. She even had a garden spot where her Buffalo Bills flag stood as a centerpiece.
Ms. Telego is survived her daughter, Sharon T. Huttemann and husband Tom of Southern Shores, NC, her niece, Lynn Mroz of Orlando, Florida, and her grand nephews, Matthew Mroz (wife, MaryAnne) of Buffalo, NY, Jared Mroz of New Jersey, Michael Mroz, of NY State and Andrew Mroz of Albequerque NM.
A Celebration of Her Life will be organized by the family and announced at a later date.
