Alice Lula Ownley

Alice Lula Ownley, 74 of 910 Cherry Glade Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Albemarle Hospital.  A native of Pasquotank County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lyle Ownley and Lula Carr Bright Ownley.  She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Sylvia O. Long of Kinston, NC; and several nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by a sister, Bernice O. Pike; and two brothers, Larry W. Ownley and Henry Carlton Ownley.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles McKenzie officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Douglas Pike, 774 Halls Creek Road, Elizabeth City, NC.  Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Ownley family.  You may express condolences to the family by visiting www.twifordfh.com.

    Awwwwww! It seems like yesterday that Alice Lou (That is what we always called her!) was singing next to me in the choir. She was so precious. I loved it when she would tell you a story and get so excited. Her memories have made me smile. I am sure that she is singing with the angels today and hearing the notes just perfectly!
