Ann Carol Carr Smothers, 78, of 140-A Golf Club Drive, Elizabeth City, NC passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at her home. At her bedside was Bob, her best friend and husband for sixty-one years. Carol was born June 28, 1939 in Dothan, Alabama. She and Bob married at a very young age. They lived and worked in Albany, GA for several years before moving to Kodiak, Alaska. They moved to Elizabeth City in 1988 where she worked at the USCG base and then Southern Insurance Company until her retirement three years ago.
Carol is survived by her mother, Mary Emma Solomon Carr, age 100, in Dothan, Alabama; her sisters, Mary Carr and Becky Carr Simmons; her brother, Steve Carr. Also at her bedside at her passing was her beloved daughter Manua Rhea Smothers Lehman (Gary). She is survived also by her two grandchildren, Shellie and Nick Wimpey (Brooke). She was pre-deceased by her father, Paul Freeman Carr, Sr.; brother, Paul Freeman Carr, Jr.; and sister, Jean Carr.
Carol was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City and served as president of the local chapter of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees). Carol’s bright eyes, ready smile and caring personality will be missed by all those who knew her.
A Gathering of Friends will be Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
