Annie Ives Horton, 83, loving wife, mother and grandmother, lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, November 1, 2017. She was born May 26, 1934 to the late Paul D. Ives and Effie Morgan Ives. In addition to her husband of 66 years, Jack O. Horton, she is survived by four daughters, Janet Horton and husband Vince Tanner of Wilmington, NC; Susan H. Brown and husband Tim, Terry H. Jordan and husband, Neal and Leigh H. Austin, all of Elizabeth City; five granddaughters, Ashley Jordan, Lauren Brown, Maggie Tanner, Morgan Austin and Shelby Austin; and one sister, Carolyn Scott of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Seth Horton Tanner; a sister, Martha Cassel; and a brother, Carlton Ives.
She retired as secretary for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. In recognition of her service to the state and her community, she was awarded the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine. She was lifelong resident of Elizabeth City and a beloved and dedicated member of Corinth Baptist Church. She adored her family and was always there to support in every way.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at Corinth Baptist Church with Dr. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Renovation Fund of Corinth Baptist Church, 1035 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E.
