Melson, Sr.  Her life was molded by the hardships of the 30s and long hours serving others to help provide a home cherished by her children.  She was a devoted and loyal friend to many and will be remembered for her quick-witted, homespun humor.

Mrs. Melson is survived by one daughter Cloey M. Park of Powells Point, NC; a son, Zadoke A. “Butch” Melson, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Marie Lawrence and Elizabeth Helkey, both of Norfolk, VA; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by a daughter, Evelyn M. Owens and two brothers, Claude H. Sutton and St. Clair Sutton.

A funeral service will take place Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Powells Point Baptist Church with the Rev. James Clark officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Twiford Memorial Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gideon’s International Chesapeake East Camp, P. O. Box 1051, Chesapeake, VA 23327.   Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Melson family.
