I have mostly communicated with Banta by Christmas cards over the years since our St. Mary’s days, but have fondest memories of Banta, and through her John and Buck, and her many wonderful stories and our good times together. I hold you close to my heart at this difficult time.

  3. Michele Sparrow

It seems like yesterday that Banta and I were roommates at St. Mary’s. She was not only successful academically, she was so full of life. When I think of Banta I see her warm smile and hear her heartfelt laugh. This is the way I will always remember her. Through the years of writing each other, one thing was clear, she adored her son Sam and was so proud of him. So my thoughts are with Sam and the whole family during this difficult time. You have my deepest sympathy.

Sylvia and Steve, Lloyd Hill called me to let me know of Banta’s passing. I have been in Asheville all week on business, returning late last night. You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers. I know what it’s like to lose a sibling, having lost my younger brother a few months back. I think of you two often and know that you are in everyone’s prayers. Memories will help you in days to come. Kind regards, Nat

    Sylvia and family,
I heard of Banta’s passing from a friend of mine from Church of Advent in Williamston. I don’t remember her very well, because she was much younger. But, I have heard good things about her. May you all find peace and comfort in your memories of Banta and may God be with you during this time. Eternal rest grant unto her and may light perpetual shine upon her! Amen.

  16. Penny Spence Raby

I was saddened to hear of Banta’s passing. I have not seen her in many years, but I remember her fondly from St. Mary’s. Leigh Gaither (Jones) and I were hall counselors our senior year and Banta was on our hall of freshman students. She was such a character…lots of spunk and very funny. I enjoyed knowing her for that short period of time. Please accept my condolences and may God bless you with His peace,

    Penny Spence Raby

  17. Leonard Kahn

From the Kahn Family, we wish you strength and grace through this terrible life moment. Banta was part of the fabric of growing through adolescence in Martinsville, Virginia. I read the news, yet in spite of its sadness I could immediately recall that wonderful voice (and who of us could ever forget her laugh). The world is less one true spirit.

  18. William and Susan Peele

We have just learned of your loss. We are praying for you as you face the days ahead. I have fond memories of growing up with Banta and the many fun summers spent at Nagshead.
