Claud A. Midgett, 76, began his eternal patrol, on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Claud was the second son of George and Beatrice Midgett. A child of humble beginnings, Claud’s best memories were of summer walks on the beach before there were tourists, and fishing nets with his grandfather before boats had motors. Claud leaves to cherish his stories five sons and their spouses: Leland C. “Peanut” and Gail, Gilbert “Joe” and Debbie, Robert and Tina, Cecil and Jenea, and Ike and partner Rick. He had one daughter, Ella. Claud lived with his companion Nancy Davis. Claud was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Jamie and wife Toni, Anthony, Lil Deb and husband Chris, Jennifer and husband Donald, Brandon, Nicki Lyn and husband Robert, Lauren and husband Ambrose, Dominique, Macie, Devyn, Justin, D’Amore, April, and Cayla. More blessings with the addition of 10 great grandchildren (with one due any day): Evan, Kara, Jackson, Hunter, Lila, Lucian, Annabelle, Sadie, Ariana, Lotus, and soon to be Marlee.
Claud leaves behind his beloved sisters, the YaYa’s: Carolyn Johnson, Laura Jones, Janet Tillett, Beatrice Robbins, Martha Beasley, and Betty Duncan. Claud leaves his younger brother Ike, to remember their good times. Besides his parents, Claud was predeceased by his brothers Sheldon, Ronnie, and Jackson, his grandson Anthony, and the mother of his children, Verlin.
Claud retired from the United States Navy, something that he was very proud of. He often spoke of being one of the few people who had circumnavigated the globe both in the air and below the sea. Claud was stationed aboard the USS Sea Lion, USS Thresher, USS Runner, USS Kittiwake, and was a plank owner of the USS Scorpion. Claud will be remembered by his children as a father who loved them unconditionally, yet held them accountable. He will be remembered by his siblings as a most loyal ally and forever protector. He will be remembered by his grandchildren as a man proud of his family, proud of where they came from, and proud of where they are going!
