David Phelps

In Memorial

David Robert Phelps, 55, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away September 14, 2013 in Elizabeth City, NC.  He was born January 28, 1958 in Akron, Ohio to Robert Milton Phelps and the late Carol Ward Phelps.  Dave was most known for his affable personality, compassionate spirit, ability to quickly connect with others, and a particular affinity for motorcycles.  His quick wit and sense of humor were surpassed only by his genuine heart and concern for those in need.  He possessed a true heart of gold.  Dave was a faithful Christian and long-time member of The Chapel (Akron, Ohio), Dunwoody Baptist Church, and First Baptist Woodstock (Georgia).  In addition to his father, he is survived by two sisters, Pam Badner (Akron, Ohio) and Kathy Bricker (North Wilkesboro, NC), brother-in-law Leigh Bricker, niece Diane Badner (Stow, Ohio), nephew Jeff Badner and wife Candice (Akron, Ohio), and many other cherished family and friends.  He is also survived by his special buddy “Bucky”, his black Labrador retriever.  The family will forever celebrate his life, and a memorial and burial will be planned for a later date in Ohio.  Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Phelps family.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.

Dear Phelps Family: I am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I find it simple to reflect back on the times of enjoyment and the pleasure of being Dave’s friend. I have numerous memories, all of which are fond of the days on West Point Dr. when Dave, my brother Rick, myself along with the Kliens band Metzger’s would play sandlot football, ride motorcycles, camp and sled ride. Dave was my trainer at my first job at Sohio under Denny Ethiridge. Many great memories there also.

Again I am truly sorry and my prayers are with your family. I hope to see you when the services will be held in ohio.

    Mr. Phelps, Pam, & Kathy,

Please accept my sincere condolence in lieu of David’s passing. I, like Kevin, have many fond memories from ouf youth and our times on Westpoint Dr. David’s contribution to those memories was significant. I still find myself reflecting back to many of those days with great delight, often recounting tales of our childhood exploits to my own children. He was there – a big part of the more “exciting” events, a good sport, and a guy you could count on when looking to get into or out of the “thick” of it… I always marveled at how he taught that dog to ride on the back of his Honda 50…

I fondly remember Dave as the nicest guy in Revere’s Class of 76. He was my homeroom buddy.

Dear Phelps family: Please accept my condolences for the loss of Dave. He and I worked together for a few years here at Georgia Transmission Corp in Tucker, GA about 10-12 years ago. I remember Dave was a very kind, thoughtful and trustworthy man. I had many great conversations with him. He was a wonderful person to be around. I know he will be missed.

I saw in the obituary about a reference to his dog “Bucky”. Dave purchased Bucky from me a little over 10 years ago. I had a female lab that had 10 puppies of which Bucky was one. Dave got Bucky when he was about 3-4 months old. I kept one puppy from that litter who passed away 2 years ago. That was a wonderful breed – very smart dogs with a loving disposition. I was wondering if someone from your family was going to keep Bucky. If your family saw the need for someone else to take care of Bucky for Dave, my wife and I would be interested in doing so. We are avid labrador retriever lovers and took care of Bucky’s mother “Dixie” until she passed at the age of 16. We would give him great care in our home and on our small farm where he could run around with another black lab we have. If you want to contact me my phone number is 770-861-6127 However, if it was Dave’s and your family’s wish to keep Bucky in your family, I respect and understand that. It would be great if you could send me a picture of Bucky if possible. I would like to see what he looks like as an adult.

Again I am so sorry for the loss of Dave, and will always remember the times we had together. I will pray for your family during this time of loss and grief.

Dear Mr. Phelps, I had trying to track Dave down for over a year. I have called the old numbers for him and didn’t receive an answer.
Considered Dave a good friend and have already been missing him. The last I knew, he was working in North Carolina but we would occasionally make contact.
If you get this message, please contact me at the above email address. Would like to catch up with you.
    God Bless You, Greg Allen
