Dorothy Burge

Dorothy Mae Burge went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 3, 2013.    Dorothy was born September 2, 1917, the daughter of Ezekiel Decator Midgett and Elizabeth Midgett and was the widow of Benjamin A. Burge.  She was a registered nurse and a member of Son Rise Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Johnnie B. Quinn and husband Van D. of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Benjamin A. Burge, Jr., and wife Deborah and Robert Lynn Burge and wife Brenda all of Kitty Hawk, NC; a sister, Flora “Flip” Smithson of Elizabeth City, NC; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by ten sisters and brothers.

A funeral service honoring her will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Twiford Memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with Minister Homer Styons officiating.  Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the funeral home lobby.  Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Burge family.  You may express condolences to the family by visiting www.twifordfh.com.

    Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss. she has gone to be with those who have gone before her, as we all will do one day. It is hard losing a mother whether it be in-law or not. She lived a long life and I’m sure you all gave her a lot of happiness.
