Dudley Ray Weeks,72, of 587 Firetower Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday morning, September 8, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 10th 1941 in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Paul Baxter Weeks, Jr. and Mildred Eason Weeks. Mr. Weeks was a retired farmer, a member of the Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, former board member of First Citizens Bank and former member of the Newland VFD.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Sawyer Weeks of the home, two daughters, Brenda Dunn and husband, Jay of Wake Forest, NC and Lynda Gordon and husband, Jody of Greensboro, NC, a son, Glenn Weeks and wife Lynn, of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Kaye Ventura of Elizabeth City, NC and Debbie Woodley and husband, Tom of Elizabeth City, NC, three brothers, Wayne Weeks and wife, Kay of Elizabeth City, NC, Larry Weeks of Savannah, GA and Kevin Weeks and wife, Robin of Elizabeth City, NC. Also, surviving are seven grandchildren, Virginia Rae Gordon, Camille Elizabeth Gordon, Ford Franklin Gordon, Charles Jerome Dunn IV, Sawyer Drake Dunn, Jared Allen Weeks and Callie Dianna Weeks. Besides his parents, Mr. Weeks was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ray Weeks and three sisters; Janet Stallings, Lydia Bright, and Paula Banks.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 2:00pm in Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church St., by Rev. Ken Littleton. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30pm at Twiford Funeral Home, Church St. and at other times at their residence, 587 Firetower Rd., Elizabeth City, NC. Flowers are welcome, however the family suggests memorial donations in his memory be made to either Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1308 School House Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
