Garland Ambrose Staples, 73, of 244 Country Club Road, Camden passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He was born in Norfolk, VA May 12, 1943 to Edith Pierce Gillikin and the late Ambrose Staples and was the husband of Anita Gurganus Staples of the residence. Garland was the owner of G.A. Staples Roofing & Remodeling, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an avid hunter and fisherman and a loving son, husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Anita and his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Staples of South Mills and Cynthia Fernandez of FL; four sons, Kevin Staples of FL, Michael Staples and Heidi Simpson of Alexandria, VA, Christopher Evans and wife Cherie of Aulander, NC and William Staples of Camden; a sister, Renee Gillikin of Old Trap; a brother Ambrose Staples and wife Juanita of South Mills; four grandchildren, Rachel, Londyn, Brock and Cannon; a great grandchild, Nolan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Twiford Memorial Chapel officiated by Bishop Jeff Hampton. The family will receive friends in the lobby following the service. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Staples family.
