Glenn Austin

Carl Glenn Austin, Sr., who practiced law in Elizabeth City for over thirty-five years, died peacefully at his home on December 4, 2013 at age 84. Mr. Austin was born in Clayton, NC, the only child of Mozelle and Carl Austin. After graduating from the original campus of Wake Forest University in Wake Forest, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and retired after serving for twenty years. He graduated from Memphis State School of Law in 1973 and moved to Elizabeth City with his family. He became a partner in the law firm of Jennette, Morrison and Austin and later opened his own law firm until his retirement at 80.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Jo Ann Austin; his sons, Carl Austin and wife Cheila of Morehead City, NC and Chris Austin and wife Marti of Chesapeake, VA; his daughters Kimberly Parrish of Elizabeth City, Signe Albertson Snipes and husband Rick of Atlanta, GA and JoBrent Austin of Charlotte, NC. He had four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City with Father Ed Mullen and Rev. Grace Wood officiating. The family will receive visitors after the service at the residence, 1408 Horner Street, Elizabeth City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of NENC, P. O. Box 1772, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to Christ Episcopal Church, 200 McMorrine Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E.     Jo Ann and family…I don’t know what to say other than I’m so sorry. Glenn was one of a kind and a very special person and friend. I have had both Glenn and Jo Ann on my mind lately but had not taken the time to visit. I will now regret that. I’m so glad I knew Glenn! My prayers are with you all.
