I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Harry’s passing. As a child growing up my summers were filled with our anual trek to Ocracoke Island. Mr. Harry was always smiling waiting for us on the ferry. I loved visiting him, Mrs. Carol and the entire family. Each summer we would talk about going to Disney World but then always decide on Ocracoke. Disney had nothing on a week in Ocracoke with the O’Neils. They were the best host and always opened their home to us. He was a good and true friend to my dad. The entire Gunnells family loved him dearly. May he rest in peace.
To Mrs. Carol and the entire family- may your memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.
    God Bless you all,
    Melaney Gunnells Odom

Growing up I spent my summers on Ocracoke along with my brothers Jimmy and Gary with my Grandparents Jim and Gladys Williams. Harry F. and Jimmy were best friends and older than me, I would follow them around when I could and they always chased me away. My husband met Harry F back in the 60’s and every time he went to Ocracoke would hang out with him. We will miss him. God bless you all.
    With fond memories

I was saddened today to hear about the passing of Harry F. My condelences to Carol, Little Harry, Jennette and the entire O’Neal Family. This shipmate proudly served for many years in the Coast Guard and with the NC Ferry Division. I personally benefitted from his friendship. His plain spoken and frank guidance personally helped me shape my own career. He once told me that a sailor should strive to better himself everyday. Fair Winds & Following Seas.
