James Darnell

James Earl Darnell, 77, of Hertford, NC died July 25, 2013 at his residence.  Born in Marion, OH, he was the son of the late Richard A. Darnell and Martha Foust Darnell and the husband of Carolyn Dail Darnell.   He was a Veteran having served his country in the United States Navy. He was a Correctional Officer retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Christopher A. Darnell and wife Crystal of Roper, NC, Phillip E. Darnell, Jimmy C. Darnell and wife Sharon and Samuel D. Darnell and wife Amanda all of Hertford, NC; a brother, William “Bill” Darnell of Marion, OH; a sister, Pam Hooper, of Harpster, OH; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.  In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a sister, Barbara Bolendaugh.

A memorial service will be held at Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 3:00 p. m. at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edwin Rutenkroger officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Albemarle Hospice, P. O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC  27907 or New Hope United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 2098 New Hope Rd., Hertford, NC  27944.
