James Melvin “Pee Wee” Edwards, 76, of 137 Baybreeze Drive, Shiloh, NC died Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation. He was born September 9, 1941 to the late Alton Lee Edwards and Eunice Riddick Edwards and was the husband of Christine Owens Edwards of the residence. He was an officer with the Elizabeth City Police Department for twenty years; was instrumental in opening the 911 Center, known as Central Communications for Pasquotank and Camden Counties; was a bailiff for the Sheriff’s Department and worked with the Pasquotank/Camden Emergency Management System. Pee Wee was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a devout Redskins fan and a dedicated family man.
In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Christine, he is survived by his family, Lisa Edwards Carter (John), Beverly Sutton, Cathy Lamb (Karin), Lisa Edwards, Debbie Lamb, Johnny Lamb (Wendy), Richard Cornelius (Stephanie), Annie Rowe Armstrong, Virginia Bright, Hannah Cafferello, Jenny Selph (Bob), Michael Sutton, Jr. (Andrea), Donnie Tinsley (Amy), and Angel Davenport; nine great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Farren Roper, Rev Lee Johnson and Rev. Perry Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, following the service in the lobby of the funeral home, and at all other times at the residence. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
