John Manley Jones, 66, of 106 Hawthorne Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Pasquotank County, he was born November 2, 1950 to the late J. B. Jones and Anna Spangler Jones and was the husband of Betty White Jones of the residence. John served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a skilled and trusted diesel mechanic and the owner and operator of John’s Truck Repair, Inc. A former Jaycee and a former member and officer of the Harley Owner Group, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his grandchildren by fishing, crabbing, hunting and water skiing. He had a passion for cooking and spoiling his family and friends with good food and great times.
In addition to his wife, Betty, of forty-two years, he is survived by his daughter, Heather J. Conway; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Conway, Evan Conway and Easton Conway, all of Hertford, NC; three sisters, Carolyn Madre (Lenon) of Elizabeth City, NC, Sylvia Whitehead of Hertford, NC and Madeline Reagle (Ron) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and his mother in law, Anne White of Hertford, NC. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son in law, Chris Conway.
A Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
