John Winters

John Winters

John Frederick Winters, 58, of  Manteo, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in his residence. John was born in Greensboro, N.C. and was a dry wall finisher.  He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy.

We lost a loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend. His first love was his family and his second love was fishing.  You could usually find him “opening up the little bridge”.

John was predeceased by his parents John Vernon and Margaret Walker Winters and was the husband of Melody Allen Winters.

Besides his wife surviving are three daughtes, Brandi Sokoloski and husband Brian, Sarah Motley and husband William and Jenni Winters all of Manteo; one brother, James Greeson of Carolina Beach; Grandchildren, Jaden Cox, Colby Sokoloski, Erica Motley, Ashley Clark and his great grandchild Landon Clark.

A service of remembrance will be held at the “Spit” or the Sand Island as the locals would call it, Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Frank Lassen.  Family and friends are more than welcome to meet at the Winters residence, 1003 Highway 64 at 3:00 p.m. to ride along on a boat or more than welcome to travel by your own boat. Come as you are. Flip flops and fishing poles are preferred. John would want it that way.

I pray that I may live to fish and when it comes to my last cast, I humbly pray, when in the Lord’s  great landing net and peacefully asleep that in His mercy I be judged big enough to keep.

We are so sorry to learn about Freddie.
May Melody and family know that we are praying for you all. May God hold you in the palm of His hand and give you peace. He was a cousin that I did’nt get to know very well but enjoyed seeing when the Winters clan got together. John and my mother Mary were brother and sister.
Love to all Lynda & Larry Burns

I send my deepest condolences to family and friends. I was honored to know such a man. I am so glad I had the chance to talk and fish with him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He is in heaven watching out for his family and friends. May you find peace. Shed tears, but tears of joy, just as he gave everyone around who was around him. Rest in peace Mr. John Winters
