Laura Meekins Venuti

Laura “Doll” Meekins Venuti, 100, of Stumpy Point, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Sentara Barco Nursing home. She was born to Arthur and Louisa Hooper Meekins, in Stumpy Point. Doll was a very active woman and lived a healthy life. She loved to sew, read, and watch tv, especially the wrestling, and she enjoyed fried chicken. Doll lived for a time in Boston with her son Boyd, and was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Lester Boyd Cahoon, and wife Deborah, of Suffolk, VA; four grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren. Including her parents, she is predeceased by two husbands, John Cahoon, and Tony Venuti; her daughter, Marie Cahoon; her son, Bentley Bird Cahoon; her six siblings; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church, on Saturday, March 15, at 2:00 pm. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

    Mrs. Doll will be missed. I always enjoyed our conversations and trips to the grocery store. She was truly a special lady and an inspiration to all who knew her

    I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share some encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. May these words give you a new hope.
