Lawrence, Edward “Eddie” Cherry, Jr. passed away June 7, 2018 at his home. He was born at Albemarle Hospital on August 13, 1965 to Lawrence E. Cherry, Sr. and Anne C. Cherry of Elizabeth City, NC.
Eddie was a graduate of Elizabeth City State University and East Carolina University. He taught Business Education at Gates County High School for over 27 years. He was well loved by both students and fellow teachers.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Cheryl Cherry Gerber and husband, Dennis of Covington, GA; a niece, Kristin Hassell of Covington, GA; nephews Noah Gerber and Drew Hassell of Covington, GA and Andrew Gerber and wife, Pamela, and their children AJ and Alex Gerber of Vilsack, Germany; his lifelong friend Ricky Jacobs of Elizabeth City, NC; and his beloved pet, Abby.
Eddie was blessed with many talents, one of which was playing the piano. He was well known for his God given ability as a pianist. He began playing the piano at age 5 and continued to develop his talent for music throughout his life. He was a member of the Elizabeth City Church of Christ and shared his talent with the Church by playing the piano for over 10 years.
Special thanks to the doctors taking care of him for the last three years and to Albemarle Hospice for the continued care over the past several months, especially to Belinda Dotson.
A service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Journey Christian Church with Mr. Homer Styons and Mr. Mike Duffer officiating. The family will greet friends in the foyer following the service. A private burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E.
