In Loving Memory of Leslie James Basnight, Jr.
February 17, 1938 – March 2, 2014
Jim as he is known to all of his friends and family, died at home after an eight month battle with cancer. Jim grew up in Princess Anne County VA., graduated from Princess Anne High School and joined the Army as a reservist where he served seven years. He enjoyed a 30 year career in highway construction throughout the Tidewater area of Virginia. Afterwards he settled in Kill Devil Hills, NC, where he founded Basnight Appliance and Lighting, and later Carolina Billiards, finally retiring five years ago.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Rawlings Basnight; a daughter Robin Wyatt; a son, Les Basnight and wife, Mary Kathryn; four grandchildren, Capt. Zack Basnight, Tiffany Wilder, Ashley Basnight, and Duncan Walser; and one great grandchild, Alia Wilder.
Jim was an active member of Outer Banks Presbyterian Church. He will truly be missed by his family and many dear friends. We would like to thank David, Joey, and all other family members and friends for their love, support and prayers.
Services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Outer Banks Presbyterian Church,907 South Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2199, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
