Mahlon Masling Blue (1952-2012) of Rodanthe, NC, passed away on January 30, 2012. Loving husband of Judith Blue; wonderful father of Colleen (Lance) of Chapel Hill, NC, Mahlon Jesse (Amanda) of Norfolk, VA, and Meagan (Tyler) of Rodanthe, NC; adoring grandfather of Karina and Michael; and caring brother of A.C., Joe and Danny Blue.
Mahlon spent most of his childhood in Manitoba, Canada, Fayetteville, NC and Norfolk, VA. At 18, he joined the US Army during the Vietnam War where he made lifelong friends and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. In Norfolk, he raised three children and worked at the Naval Base for more than 20 years. The lead singer of the Sunnyland Blues Band and Louisiana Mudbugs, Mahlon was a founding member of the Natchel’ Blues Network. He retired and moved to Rodanthe to be close to his beloved mother-n-law, Olive O’Neal Patrick. In Rodanthe, he enjoyed living at the beach, working, reading, and playing guitar with the Frisco Jubilee. Mahlon had a deep passion for all music, and loved his family and friends dearly. He will be sorely missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2 PM at 23186 Myrna Peters Road in Rodanthe. Memorial contributions can be made to Fair Haven United Methodist Church or Duke Cancer Institute for esophageal cancer research.

Our thoughts are with your family. May the words in Psalms 34:15 give you hope and comfort.
Mahlon was such a remarkable soul that my profound sadness at his passing is the only window I have to the grief that Judy, Colleen, Meagan, Jesse, Joe, Danny, A.C. and the rest of the family that he loved so much must be going through at this time. Just like the lives of those fortunate enough to know Mahlon, our little blue planet was graced for 59 years with Mahlon’s presence. For that we are all thankful. I prey that gratitude will help heal us in this time of loss.
I am so sorry for your loss.I will be praying for each of you.I wish I could be there for you,May God bless you in yor time of sorrow.
Judy,
I am so sorry to hear about Mahlon’s passing. I always loved hearing him sing and play the guitar. My condolences to you and your family.
