Margaret Eunice Newbern Myers of Elizabeth City, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2018. Born to the late Marshall Edward Newbern and Laura Nancy Alexander Newbern, Mrs. Myers was a teacher who taught many children in various locations in Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, with a large portion of that time here in Elizabeth City. She taught at the oldest school in Virginia (Lafayette Elementary) and her first teaching job was in Portlock (also in Virginia). She taught special education and art also. She was a member of First Christian Church and attended Grace United Methodist Church. She lived in Daytona Beach, FL and attended Daytona First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was the widow of Harry Elwyn Myers.
She is survived by a sister, Emma Kay Newbern Smith (William) of Elizabeth city, NC; one brother, Anthony E. “Tony” Newbern (Louise) of GA; three special brothers- in-law; a special aunt; many beloved cousins; a nephew, Brian A. Newbern (Suzanne) of Raleigh, NC; and one great niece and three great nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by a brother, Marshall Louis Newbern and his wife, Gloria; brother- in- law Jack Smith; a nephew, Marshall Keith Newbern; and two special cousins, George Meads and Ronnie Alexander.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Rev. Barry Taylor and Pastor Donald J. Waltz officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, 800 Beech Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or Grace United Methodist Church, 1822 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
