Margaret Nixon

Margaret Morris Nixon, 91, of 230 Whitehat Road, Hertford, NC died Monday, July 29, 2013 at Waterbrooke of Elizabeth City.  Born in Pasquotank County, NC and a longtime resident of Perquimans County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Quinton and Sara Florence Sawyer Morris and was the wife of the late Walter Nixon.  Mrs. Nixon was a seamstress and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Sarah F. Nixon of Newport News, VA and Mary “Nickie” Green and husband Richard of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Lloyd W. Nixon and wife Mary Jane of Moyock, NC and James L. Nixon and wife Pam of Kitty Hawk; a sister-in-law, Shirley Morris; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Nixon was preceded in death by a son, Walter Ray Nixon.

A funeral service will take place Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Pease and the Rev. Thomas Biggs officiating.  Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Mary and Richard Green, 1907 Johnson Road, Elizabeth City, NC.  Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Nixon family.  Condolences may be sent to the family at

    So sorry to hear about Aunt Margaret, she was the last to go. Mom is only 1 1/2 years younger than her. I know from experience with mom what your family has gone through. Now she is at peace.

    There is never a time that when I think of Margaret that I don’t smile. Her laughter and warm hugs are such a part of our lives and of our children. God loved Margaret Nixon.
