Mark Dane Dough

Mark Dane Dough

Mark Dane Dough, 57, of Kitty Hawk passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 26 while camping with his wife Cyd in Buxton where they enjoyed many weekends fishing on the beach. Mark and Cyd had just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

The youngest son of McDonald and Myrtle Meekins Dough, both deceased, Mark was raised in Colington and helped at the store owned by his parents, the Stop and Shop in Kill Devil Hills.
He grew up surfing and fishing and had a great love of the outdoors and the Outer Banks.

Although Mark earned a degree in Environmental Health at East Carolina University, he enjoyed cooking and worked in numerous local restaurants, eventually in 1991 becoming manager and then part owner of Frisco’s Restaurant in Kitty Hawk. After selling the restaurant in 2000, Mark started a landscape business which he operated till the present.

He was the grandson of the late William Lewis and Ida Haywood Meekins and the late Samuel Clifford Basnight Sr. and Zorada Tillett Basnight. His great grandfather was William S. Dough, one of the five witnesses of the first controlled powered flight of the Wright Brothers.

In addition to his wife Cyd, he is survived by the families of his brothers, William Michael “Mike” Dough and his wife Jane, nephew Michael Craig Dough of Gloucester, and niece Kimberly A. Burns of Virginia Beach, sister-in-law Linda Mann Dough of Kill Devil Hills, and nephews, Allen Dough of Poplar Branch and Keith Dough of Colington. Mark was pre-deceased by his brother Rodney Kent Dough.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 2 at 11 a.m. at Twiford’s Funeral Home located at 500 Budleigh Street in Manteo. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Dare County ASPCA, POB 2477, Manteo, NC 27954.
