Mary Harris

Mary Willie Yelton Harris, 95, of 570 Crooked Run Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, October 11, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Rutherford County, NC on April 29, 1918 to the late Grady and Lela Hutchins Yelton. Mrs. Harris was the widow of the late Joseph Jordan Harris, Sr. She retired after thirty five years as a public school teacher and was a member of the Newland United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Harris is survived by a daughter, Catherine Harris Mudra of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Clif Harris and wife, Lynnette of Wilmington, NC and Glenn Harris and wife, Sandra, of Elizabeth City; one sister, Ethel Arrowood of Rutherford County, NC. Also, surviving are seven grandchildren, Teresa Wooten, Karen Twiford, Dale Harris, Kelly Harris, Alison Harris, Molly Harris and Hannah Harris; five great grandchildren, Ethan Wooten, Cameron Wooten, Ainsley Wooten, Callie Twiford and John Twiford. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by a son, Joseph J. “J.J.” Harris, Jr. and six sisters. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the love and care that Geneva Lamb as well as Albemarle Hospice gave to their mother.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 14, 2013, at 11:00am in Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church St., by the Rev. Dan Baer. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at the funeral home, also immediately following the funeral service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at her residence. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Harris family. Online memorial condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
