Maxine Urbanek

Maxine Schmeltzer Urbanek, 89, of Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Kindred Care of Elizabeth City.  Born in Enderlin, ND, she was the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Helen Stromme Schmeltzer.  Ms. Urbanek was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy.  She was a retired bookkeeper.

Ms. Urbanek is survived by three daughters, Lois Urbanek Diggins of Altoona, PA, Virginia Urbanek Hughes of Elizabeth City, NC and Debra Kay Urbanek of Stuart, FL; three sons, John Lewis Urbanek, Jr. of Houston, TX, Allen Wayne Urbanek of Harbinger, NC and Richard Dennis Urbanek of Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Schmeltzer and Richard Schmeltzer.

A memorial service with military honors will take place Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home.  Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Urbanek family.     She will be greatly misses by all that kenw her. I enjoyed her company while she was a resident at Carolina Retirement Home. A very smart woman. Rest in Peace dear lady.
