Mildred Shannonhouse Johnson, 95, of Coopers Lane, Elizabeth City, NC died April 11, 2018 at her residence. Born January 27, 1923 to the late Thomas Gordon Shannonhouse and Mary Smith Shannonhouse, she was the widow of John W. “Honey” Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was a retired school secretary, a member of First United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, was a bridge player, member of the Garden Club, loved music, and her grandchildren were her heart.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Johnson, Marianne Cooper (Terry), and Barbara Weatherly all of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, John W. Johnson, III (Katie) of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Gordon Shannonhouse (Jeric), NJ; eleven grandchildren, Lisa, Pam (Russell), Laurie, Shannon (Greg), Jennifer (Carl), Amber, Ashley (Bryan), Jillian (Jonathan), Lindsay (Mike), Jessica (Taz), and Jason (Whitney); nineteen great grandchildren, Joey, Caitlin, Samantha, Erin, Robby, Jonathan, Deacon, Luke, David, Reva, Will, Ashton, Brooklyn, Hayleigh, Chase, Drew, Caleb, Cameron, and Robert; and seven great great grandchildren Atticus, Porter, Jaxson, Carter, Remington, Ruger, and Trinity. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Usilton, and a grandson, David.

A service will be held at Twiford Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, April 14, 2018 from 7:00 ~ 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at all other times at the residence. A private burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
