Myrtle Meads Best, 85, formerly of 538 Meadstown Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Winslow Memorial Home.  A native of Pasquotank County, she was the daughter of the late John A. Meads and Mary Jane Luton Meads and the widow of Jack Wallace Best.  She was a member of Olivet Lakes Pentecostal Holiness Church and a homemaker.  She loved animals and flowers.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Curtis of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Beatrice “Kitty” Godfrey of Camden, NC; three grandchildren, Joseph Neizer of Raleigh, NC, Amanda Best of New Port Beach, CA, and Tommy Cherry and wife Nichole of Indiana, PA; and three great-grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by a son, Jack A. Best; three sisters, Sadie Pritchard, Audrey Lane, and Mary E. “Lizzy” Chambers; five brothers, Robert Meads, Charlie Meads, Tom Meads, John Meads, and Frank Meads.  Special thanks to caregivers, Sharon Meads Weitzel, Rebecca Spear, and Autumn Hudson.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roland Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home lobby immediately after the service.
