NAGS HEAD, NC
Norma Carol Johnson, age 76 of Nags Head, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. She was born to the late Louis and Virginia Parham on February 4, 1937.
Norma is survived by her daughters and their families: Shanda and Darren Bittick, Julie and Carson Bevan, Jennifer and John Lovell and Jenny Buffington. She had seven grandchildren who she adored: late Ryan Chase Snyder, Blake Snyder, Madison Snyder, Mekenzie Bevan, Brigette Bevan, Brooke Lovell, and John Lovell. She was lovingly called Marmsey or GrandMarmsey by family and friends.
Norma attended Lenoir-Rhyne University where she was crowned the sweetheart of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and state ping-pong champion. She married her college sweetheart Robert S. Johnson, Jr in August of 1961.
Norma was able to stay at home with her children for a number of years and enjoyed her teaching the neighborhood children arts and crafts. In 1973, she went back to her profession of teaching Kindergarten at Cardinal Forest Elementary. As they were both school teachers, the family enjoyed summers camping and their house at the beach. They lived in Springfield, Virginia until retiring to Nags Head.
Norma and Bob Johnson were inseparable until his death in 2000. They had many great adventures fishing, boating, camping, cruising and dancing together. Every morning, she could be found drinking a cup of coffee and reading her Bible. She taught her family about God, love and set a Christian example. She was a member of Manteo Baptist Church. Norma was an accomplished artist and her walls are covered with her paintings and drawings. Everyone loved her dearly as she was always positive and uplifting to be around and there is no doubt that she is dancing in heaven with “Dadsey”.
The visitation is from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo, North Carolina. The funeral service and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 17th at 2:00 PM at the Manteo Baptist Church. Reverend Ken Simpson will be officiating. The burial will be at Roanoke Island Memorial Park.Print Obituary & Condolences
