Orville McLearon Daniels, Sr., 89, known to the community as “Timer”, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Spring Arbor of the Outer Banks. Born in Wanchese, he was the son of the late Paul and Dola Tillett Daniels and the widower of Millicent “Mickey” Daniels. Timer was a Merchant Marine during World War II, a former partner of Stetson and Daniels Contracting, a former tugboat captain with Daniels Oil Company, and owner/operator of Daniels Welding.
Timer is survived by three daughters, Arlene Davis and husband, Jerry of Martins Point, Harriet Lassister and husband, Larry of Big Island, VA, and Dola Moore and husband, Ray of Kill Devil Hills; two sons, Orville Daniels, Jr. and Paul Daniels both of Wanchese; a sister, Wanda Cox of Manteo; five grandchildren, Jed Davis, Cristie Daniels, Jerome Lassiter, Morgan Liverman, and Audra Katherine; and four great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, Timer is preceded in death by two sisters, Brooks Stetson and Bertie Daniels.
A funeral service will be held at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM by Pastor Kenny Midgett. Burial will be in Tillett Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dare Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954.
