Paul Frederick Keller, 91, of Duck, NC died at his home on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Born September 27, 1925 in Evansville, IN, he was the son of the late George T. Keller and Mary Pauline Redicker Keller.
Paul joined the United States Navy in 1943, serving his country honorably in the reserves for eight years. Graduating from Purdue University as an aeronautical engineer, he spent his career with Cal Tech and Aerojet, dedicated to the development of aeronautics-related systems.
As the Town of Duck’s first mayor in 2002, Paul was very active within his community. He served as president of the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club, board member of Pathways International helping foreign students adjust, member of the First Flight Society, member of the Dare County Transportation Advisory Board, and a faithful member of Duck United Methodist Church. A North Carolina Senior Olympics gold medalist, Paul enjoyed bowling and volunteering for the Town of Duck’s 5K Turkey Trot.
Paul is survived by two daughters, Lori Keller of Eugene, Oregon and Lisa Vittoria and husband, Mike of Fredericksburg, Virginia; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four siblings. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Rodenbeck; his second wife, Connie Stienstra; and three siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Duck United Methodist Church. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for a reception at The Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall in Duck immediately following the service.
